12 / HEAVY AS A HURRICANE
louder than a freight train

Everyone had been talking about a fighting festival that was taking place in Vaziel and the guys were going to participate to get the prize. Giants, however, were strictly forbidden in Vaizel due to past grievances. As a result, Diane was left behind, much to her disappointment. So, Elizabeth and I decided to keep her company, which led us to wander through the forest, our mission simple: find something edible.

Elizabeth walked beside me, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of curiosity and concern. "So, are you really dating Sir Meliodas?" she asked, her voice a gentle inquiry.

I opened my mouth to respond, but Diane cut me off. "They are!" she chirped with a grin, her tone leaving no room for argument.

My mouth dropped open slightly in surprise. "And how are you so sure?" I questioned, my gaze narrowing suspiciously at the giantess.

"Captain told us!" Diane hummed happily, her expression softening at the memory. "It was really sweet."

"Care to elaborate?" I pressed, crossing my arms over my chest. Diane's smile only grew as she hummed an innocent tune, refusing to divulge any further information.

Elizabeth and I exchanged a glance, my brows knitting together in frustration. Diane's stubbornness was legendary. There would be no prying anything more from her. I sighed, letting it go.

"You're not... mad, right?" I asked cautiously, remembering the way Diane had once crushed Meliodas in a fit of rage. The memory sent a shiver of fear down my spine, and I instinctively took a step back, half-hiding behind Elizabeth as if she could protect me from the giant's wrath.

Diane looked down at me, her expression unreadable. My heart pounded in my chest, a thousand scenarios running through my mind—each one worse than the last. I felt the muscles in my legs tense, ready to flee at a moment's notice. But then, her purple eyes softened, and a wide smile spread across her face.

"No," she said with a closed eye smile that chased away the looming threat. "After a talk with Captain, I can't interfere with that."

Relief washed over me like a wave, and I couldn't help but smile back at her. "Thank you," I whispered, the words barely audible over the hammering of my heart.

"And besides," Diane added with a flick of her hair, "I like our friendship way more than getting in between some guy." She reached down, scooping me up with ease and rubbing me against her cheek in a display of affection that made me laugh despite myself.

"Di! You're so cool," I gushed, feeling a warmth in my chest. She set me back on the ground gently, and we continued our search, the tension from earlier dissipating like morning fog.
