17 / WHEN THE STARS ALIGN
i'll be there✹
The prison cell felt suffocating, each stone wall a silent witness to our despair. The air was damp, heavy, thick with an unshakable tension that coiled around my chest like a vice. Elizabeth's rapid breaths echoed in the cold, confined space. I could barely contain my own rising anxiety as I inhaled deeply, trying to steady myself. My eyes flickered to the mage—an ominous silhouette in the dim light. Her gaze was cold, unmoving, before she vanished, leaving nothing but an eerie silence in her wake.
<We'll be there soon.> Meliodas' voice filled the hollow space in my mind, a whisper of comfort amidst the oppressive atmosphere. His presence washed over me like a calming breeze, loosening the knot of fear in my chest. <Do you know where you are?>
"Elizabeth?" I whispered.
She turned, her expression a storm of worry and anger. "Yes?" she managed, her voice cracking slightly.
"Do you know where we are?" I asked gently.
Her eyes darted around, her brow creasing with realization. "Liones Prison," she breathed out, resignation tainting her words. "I'm pretty sure."
The words hung heavy in the air. Liones Prison. The name itself was enough to send a chill down my spine, the reality of our confinement settling like a stone in my stomach.
<Liones Prison? That's what Elizabeth thinks.> I relayed to Meliodas, each word in my mind laced with rising dread.
<Got it. Don't panic, okay?> he hummed soothingly through my head.
I nodded, more to myself than anyone else, taking a shaky breath. Beside me, Elizabeth reached out, her fingers curling around mine in a silent plea for comfort. I squeezed her hand, offering a tight smile. Meanwhile, Hawk was losing his composure, his frantic pacing mirroring the turmoil in my chest. He suddenly let out a roar and launched himself at the cell door, smashing it down with an intensity that left me momentarily stunned.
"That works..." My voice was barely audible as Elizabeth tugged at my hand, pulling me out of my stupor.
We moved through the twisting corridors, the walls closing in like the jaws of a trap. Hawk sprang into action, rolling through guards with a ferocity that left them sprawled on the cold stone floors. Elizabeth's voice echoed around us as she called for her father and sister, the desperation in her tone slicing through the darkness.
"Elizabeth," I hissed urgently, my eyes scanning the shadows. "We need to be quiet."
Her voice died down to a whisper, worry etched deep into her features. Then, a voice shattered the tense silence-Margaret. Elizabeth's sister. They rushed into an emotional reunion while Hawk and I remained on high alert, scanning the area for any signs of incoming guards.
