7 / IN MY MIND
in my mind, in my head

Diane apologized to us after Meliodas explained how we were all searching for the Seven Deadly Sins, admitting she had overreacted. Honestly, I secretly wished she had hit the blonde man harder. She ended up apologizing to Hawk for trying to roast him, and of course, Hawk started going on about how if she ever touched him, his mom would make her regret it. I couldn't help but smile a little at his confidence.

Diane's gaze shifted to me, and as she leaned down, squinting, her eyes bore into mine.

"You sure you're not in that kind of relationship with the Captain?" she asked, her voice both curious and suspicious.

My heart stuttered in my chest, and I felt a wave of panic rising. I wasn't sure how to respond. I didn't want to lie, but I also didn't want anyone to know about the kiss—especially Hawk. He'd freak out, and I wasn't ready to face Diane's wrath. After all, if she thought I was involved with Meliodas, who knows what she'd do to me. I had already seen her flatten him, and I definitely didn't want to be on the receiving end of that kind of strength.

But then a thought hit me—what if they had a romantic relationship before? If he was going around kissing other women, she deserved to know. I couldn't stand the idea of keeping that from her.

"Uh—" I began to speak, my words clumsy and hesitant, but I was immediately cut off by Meliodas' voice.

"You know, Diane, you and I don't have that kind of relationship either," Meliodas said as he turned toward her, his tone casual, as if the conversation were nothing more than small talk. "I'm just doing everything I can to find the Seven Deadly Sins. We all want to find them, after all."

Diane straightened up, her eyes narrowing for a moment before she nodded. "Well, if you're sure that's the case, I'll come along with you guys." She announced, hands on her hips. "You've got the help of the Serpent Sin of Envy, the Giant Diane!"

"Really? That's amazing!"

I couldn't help but beam up at her. "Aw, man, she's so cool!" I said, clasping my hands to my chest in admiration.

Diane blushed slightly, twirling one of her pigtails in her hand, clearly flattered by my reaction. "Thanks!" she said shyly, before her expression grew serious again. "But let's get one thing straight. The only reason I'm doing this is because the Captain's with you."

Her words stung just a little, but I tried to shrug it off, giving her a slight nod. Even with her stern attitude, I still thought she was incredible.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the prankster imps from before hiding behind a rock, looking relieved that Diane had finally stopped threatening them after years of terrorizing them.
