The night was cold, the wind biting whatever exposed skin you showed. It didn't bother you, not like you'd let it. You were on a mission and you were determined to complete it before going to sleep tonight. The forest was dark, strictly blocking any hint of light from the moon to guide your way. You could easily pull your phone out and use the flashlight, but it wasn't as cool as using your magic.
You looked around, not sensing any peering eyes before you sharply shook your wrist. Instantly, little flames resembling candlelight appeared on your fingertips. One by one, you flicked them, watching as they floated in the air in front of you, patiently waiting for your command.
This was your first and favorite trick to do when you first came to this world. In a world of fiction, you had more freedom with your abilities compared to reality. You did the zoom in motion with each fiery orb, enlarging them to be the size of basketballs.
You knew demons lurked through the night, and that your flames held the same energy as the sun. With these orbs flaming bright, no demon would touch you as you ventured deeper into the woods. Having done this countless times, you bravely ventured into the woods, three orbs ahead and two behind.
Why were you even out here, one would ask. Well, not that it was anyone else's business, but you were gathering special herbs. Tomorrow was your son's 5th birthday, and since he wanted to follow in your footsteps as a witch, you were getting the materials for a beginner spell that he could practice as a birthday gift.
You were excited, fidgeting with the (gold/silver) cuffs on your braids as you reached the area where the familiar herbs could be found. Your family was a healthy one, and for the tradition of witchcraft to be continuing without a hitch due to your husband's endless support made you happy.
Though you were disappointed in being transported here without a purpose, you ended up making your own. As you picked the plants you needed and filled up your basket, you thought of the timeline.
While you did wish to save as many characters as you could, there was no purpose in it. In the grand scheme of it all, you couldn't even go toe-to-toe with Tanjiro, not that he'd fight you to begin with. What good were you in a story that didn't need you?
You shrugged the feeling off, you couldn't afford to be sad especially when your child’s birthday was only a few hours away. This was a good life for you, a peaceful one that washed away the toxic upbringing you had. A precious time to cherish, and you'd live it well.
Once you decided that you had enough herbs for the beginner spell, you stood up and wiped your kimono down for any dirt. “Unless I receive a sign, I will live this life in peace.” You hummed, moving the orbs to lead the way back home.
“Now that I have the herbs, I need to see if Asahi's rain bowl has finished drying…” You made a face in deep thought. The ceremony that would take part on your son's birthday was passed down only in your family, and it was definitely something.
One's journey into witchcraft was similar to that of Doljabi, where different items represented careers and whichever the baby picks is what they'd become in the future. In your tradition, it was more on the different kinds of witches, and the type picked the child. Sort of like the Tinkerbell movies, where the tinkering talent practically chose the protagonist!
There were many different kinds of witches in the world, so you made sure to set up different kinds of elements. An unlit candle to see if he's a fire witch, a bowl of moon water to see if he was a water witch and the rest goes on. There were too many kinds of witches for you to possibly get every single one, but you'd get them all down for the best result your baby could choose.
