The early morning light filtered through the thin curtains of the hospital room, casting a faint glow on Soap's pale face. I woke with a jolt as Ghost gently shook my shoulder, my disoriented mind struggling to piece together the last few hours. I blinked, rubbing my eyes and trying to shake off the remnants of the little sleep I got. He went back and sat in the corner, his figure a stark contrast to the soft morning light, his presence as commanding as ever. Ghost's eyes met mine. "We need to get Soap out of here," he said quietly. "It's not safe, and staying here won't do us any favors."
The adrenaline that had initially fueled me was long faded, replaced by the hangover and exhaustion. I knew he was right, lingering here was risky, and we needed to get to the National security headquarters. I rubbed my face, trying to clear the sleep from my eyes and force my mind into focus. The beeping of the heart monitor, once a distant sound, now seemed louder, more insistent. I could hear it echoing in my head, a relentless reminder of the urgency of our situation. "Right. What's the plan?"
"We need to move quickly and quietly avoiding attention. My car is out the back."
I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "Okay. What do you need me to do?"
"Help me get him up. We'll need to make sure he's as stable as possible before we start moving." He reached out and gently shook Soap's shoulder, murmuring his name to wake him up. "We need to hurry before doctors start to come in."
Soap groaned softly, stirring from his sleep. His eyes fluttered open, confusion and pain evident in his gaze. "Ghost? What's going on?" he asked, his voice weak.
"We're getting you out, Johnny" Ghost replied, his tone brooking no argument. "We need to move. Can you walk?"
Soap nodded slowly, trying to push himself up from the bed. With Ghost's help, he managed to sit up, though he looked unsteady. I quickly gathered his belongings, making sure to avoid making any noise that might attract unwanted attention. I bend down to unplug the machines monitoring his stats, can't risk them making noise when we unplug him. Ghost paced around checking for any signs of trouble while I supported Soap, helping him into his clothes and preparing him for the escape.
We moved carefully through the dimly lit corridors of the hospital, the silence broken only by the occasional distant murmur of staff. Ghost led the way, his movements precise and calculated, while I stayed close behind Soap, providing support and trying to keep him steady.
As we reached the main lobby, we were met with the sight of the desk clerk engrossed in her paperwork. Ghost signaled for us to stay out of sight, his eyes scanning the area for any sign.
Didin't take long for the lady to pick op her papers and leave the desk, "Now's our chance," Ghost whispered, and we moved quickly, slipping past the desk and into the hallway. We navigated through a series of darkened corridors and what seemed like staff only rooms.
Soap, despite his weakened state, managed to keep pace, though it was clear he was struggling. "What's the plan?" he asked. "We'll get you out through the emergency exit," Ghost replied. "It's less monitored."
The emergency exit was a heavy door, but it was easily accessible. Ghost pushed it open with a quiet creak, and we slipped outside into the chilly morning air. The city was waking up, and the streets were just beginning to fill with the first signs of activity.
