Ch.9: A Birthday Celebration

AS MYA'S TREATMENT PROGRESSED & her strength grew, Nick & Priyanka found moments of joy amidst the difficult days. They celebrated small victories & cherished every milestone, none more special than Mya's 5th birthday.

The hospital room was adorned with colorful balloons & streamers, transforming it into a festive space. Mya sat in bed, surrounded by family & close friends who had gathered to mark this special day.

"Happy birthday, Mya!" Priyanka exclaimed, placing a party on Mya's head.

Nick handed Mya a gift-wrapped box. "This is for you, sweetheart."

Mya's eyes widened in excitement as she tore open the wrapping paper. Inside was a plush unicorn, her favorite animal. She hugged it tightly, a wide smile spreading across her face.

"Unicorn!" Mya exclaimed, her voice filled with delight.

The room filled with laughter & chatter as Mya's friends played games, ate cake, & shared stories. Mya's laughter rang out, a testament to her resilience & joy despite the challenges she faced.

Sarah Thompson, Mya's therapist, joined the celebration, brining with her a homemade card signed by all the staff at the children's center. "Happy birthday, Mya," she said warmly, handing Mya the card.

Mya studied the card with wide eyes, her fingers tracing the colorful drawings & heartfelt messages. "Sarah," she said softly, looking up at her therapist with gratitude.

Sarah smiled, her eyes misting with emotion. "You're a very special girl, Mya. We're all so proud of you."

Nick & Priyanka exchanged a glance, their hearts swelling with love for their daughter. They had come so far since Mya entered their lives, & every day was a reminder of the preciousness of time & the strength of their family bond.

As the party wounded down, Mya snuggled against Nick's chest, her eyelids growing heavy with sleep. "Thank you, Daddy," she whispered, her voice filled with contentment.

Nick kissed the top of her head, his voice choked with emotion. "I love you so much, Mya."

Priyanka sat beside them, her hand resting on Mya's shoulder. "We're so lucky to have you in our lives, sweetheart."

As Mya drifted off to sleep, cradled in her parents' arms, Mjck whispered a silent promise to her. "We'll always be here for you, Mya. Always."
