THE MORNING SUN filtered through the curtains, casting a golden into Mya's room. Nick & Priyanka had just finished breakfast when Priyanka's phone rang. She answered with a smile, but as she listened, her expression shifted to one of concern.

Nick noticed immediately. "What is it, Pri?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry.

Priyanka held a hand to her ear, listening intently. "Yes, thank you, Doctor. We'll be there as soon as possible," she said finally, ending the call.

Nick's heart sank. "Pri, what's wrong?"

Priyanka took a deep breath, meeting Nick's eyes. "That was Dr. Bennett's office. They want us to come in today to discuss Mya's test results."

Nick felt a knot form in his stomach. "Test results? What kind of tests?"

Priyanka's voice was steady but tinged with anxiety. "They ran some additional tests last week after Mya started complaining of stomach pain. They're concerned it might be more than just a minor issue."

Nick stood abruptly, his mind racing with fear. "You mean...it could be serious?"

Priyanka nodded solemnly. "We don't know yet. We need to talk to Dr. Bennett."

They drove to the hospital in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Mya sat quietly in the backseat, unwavering of the gravity of the situation.

When they arrived, Dr. Emily Bennett greeted them with a warm smile, but her eyes were serious as she led them to her office. Mya played with a toy in the corner, oblivious to the tension in the room.

"Nick, Priyanka, I'm glad you could come in today," Dr. Bennett began, her voice gentle yet grave. "I received Mya's test results, & I'm afraid they show signs of neuroblastoma."

Nick felt as though the world had stopped. "Neuroblastoma?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper.

Dr. Bennett nodded, her expression sympathetic. "Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that affects the nervous system. It's rare, especially at Mya's age, but it's aggressive."

Priyanka's eyes filled with tears. "What does this mean for Mya?"

Dr. Bennett explained, her tone compassionate yet clinical. "We caught it early, which is good. Mya will need to start treatment right away–chemotherapy, possibly surgery. It's going to be a tough road, but we'll do everything we can to help her."

Nick struggled to process the information. "How...how did this happen?" he asked, his voice cracking with emotion.

Dr. Bennett shook her hand sadly. "Sometimes, these things are just...random. It's not anyone's fault."

Priyanka reached for Nick's hand, squeezing it tightly. "We'll get through this, babe. Mya needs us."

Nick nodded, steeling himself for the battle ahead. "We'll do whatever it takes."

Dr. Bennett outlined the treatment plan, detailing the upcoming procedures & the potential side effects. Mya played nearby, unaware of the heavy conversation unfolding around her.

As they left the hospital, Nick held Mya close, his heart breaking at the thought of what laid ahead. Priyanka wrapped an arm around them both, her voice steady despite the tears.

"We're in this together, Mya," she whispered. "We'll fight this together."

Mya looked up at them, her eyes searching their faces. "Fight?"

Nick kissed the top of her head, his voice thick with emotion. "Yes, sweetheart. We're going to fight this together."

As they drove home, the weight of Mya's diagnosis hung heavy in the air. But amidst the fear & uncertainty, there was also a glimmer of hope–a determination to do whatever it took to ensure that Mya would emerge victorious in her battle against neuroblastoma.
