Narrator POV

It was safe to say that when Sanemi first introduced himself he was downright awful. Scratch that, his introduction was garbage.

His first Hashira meeting had figuratively gone up in flames, with him being deemed as a brat among brats. He was rude towards the master after a misunderstanding regarding his friend Masachika, and his role in the war between humans and demons.

Masachika, his friend. His friend who stuck with him thick and thin was not one to gauge one's worth by their skill but by their strength of heart. When he ended up dying, a part of Sanemi felt remorseful for the fact that he couldn't have thought of the 9th form of Wind Breathing before Masachika died.

"I'm a fool," Sanemi says to himself. He's currently walking himself to the Butterfly Mansion for about the 7th time this week... It's only Wednesday, but whatever, under the master's order or whatever he thinks.

He knocks on the door and is greeted by Kanae... for the 7th time this week. "Shinazugawa-san... again?" She says with a sad frown. She grabs my arm and leads me to her office.

After treating his wounds, Kanae found Sanemi sitting alone in the garden, staring at the blooming flowers with a troubled expression. She approached him cautiously, sensing the weight of his burdens.

Kanae (softly): "Sanemi, we need to talk."

Sanemi glanced up, his gaze guarded but curious. He nodded, inviting her to sit beside him.

Kanae: "I want to understand. Why do you put yourself in danger like this? What drives you?"

Sanemi's jaw clenched, his gaze flickering with pain and determination. He took a deep breath, trying to find the words to articulate his inner turmoil.

Sanemi (gruffly): "I lost my family to demons. Every time I go out there, I'm trying to make sure no one else has to go through what I did."

Kanae's heart clenched at his words, her empathy for his suffering deepening. She reached out, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder in a gesture of support.

Kanae (softly): "I'm sorry, Sanemi. I didn't know."

Sanemi's gaze softened slightly, a flicker of vulnerability breaking through his stoic facade.

Sanemi: "I don't know how to do anything else."

Kanae: "Then let me help you. We can learn from each other. Maybe you can teach me to be stronger, and I can teach you to take care of yourself."

Sanemi's eyes met hers, a mixture of gratitude and uncertainty swirling within their depths. He wasn't used to relying on others, but there was something about Kanae's presence that made him want to open up.

Sanemi: "I... I appreciate that, Kanae. More than you know."

Kanae: "We all need someone, Sanemi. Even the strongest among us. And I'm glad I can be here for you."

It had been only about 5 days this time. A new record for Sanemi without going to the Butterfly mansion. However, the peace would only last a few more days without Sanemi being sent to the butterfly mansion, as Kanae would learn while trying to make a patient take some medicine.

"Now please, you need to take this otherwise you won't get better," Kanae said in a sweet tone. The slayer looking upon her face felt his resolve to drink the disgusting medicine waver, before eventually finally collapsing and just drinking the whole thing.
