Kanae POV (Very Early 1910)

It had been a rough night at the Butterfly Estate multiple patients had just come back from an encounter with Upper Moon 3, and most of them were extremely injured or near death, meaning that I and Shinobu needed to perform surgery on more than 10 people. The process was excruciating, but it was doable with all surgeries being successful.

I wiped down the sweat from my brow as I was ready to get some sleep. It was difficult being the butterfly estate manager while also being a demon slayer. Being a doctor and a demon slayer, a Hashira no less with my own sector to guard meant that I didn't have much time to sleep. But from lots of experience, and training I could pull it off most of the time. Tonight was just not that night as I could feel my body physically giving up on me as I plopped down on my bed with my butterfly Haori still on me.

"ugh.... I'm so tired, I wish... I wish we didn't have to fight demons" My goal was to one day live side by side with demons, hopefully manage to find a way to live with them in harmony. While this dream may have been nigh impossible, it was still my dream, even if it didn't seem possible.

"I just wa-" My vision began giving up on me as I finally entered sleep.

Waking up I realized that most of the chores had already been done by Shinobu, my ever-reliable sister. While she was a demon slayer, because of her duties as a medic for the butterfly estate, she didn't get as many calls to go demon slayer, a small favor I managed to get from the master.

I didn't like telling her not to out into the field, but every time she did, especially without me, it filled my heart with dread that couldn't be comprehended. She was strong, more agile, and faster than I could ever get, but I was always afraid, afraid that one day she might meet a demon that she couldn't beat.

I walked around the estate finishing all the rest of the chores such as meeting up with patients and checking on their status, with none of them cleared to be checked out as most of them were missing chunks of flesh or even some of their eyes. A knock at the door could be heard while I was inspecting somebody's eyes.

"Shinobu do you mind getting that?" I asked Shinobu who was standing at my office side. She didn't like talking to patients when she didn't have to, meaning that she didn't have many colleagues or people she could call friends, something I wished could change. So I sometimes asked her to do some things that she didn't like to do.

"Ugh... fine" Shinobu walks out of my office as I continue to look at his eye. "it looks like your eyes should heal by themselves. The blindness you're currently experiencing is most likely temporary, so your eyesight should heal soon"

I send the demon slayer out of the room, with me walking him back to his bed. Once we settle down I walk back to my office starting on his report.

Knock, knock, knock

3 knocks on the door, and Shinobu's voice from the other side. "nee-san, we've got visitors from the master, they say that they need a checkup" Shinobu says in a monotone voice.

"Alright, please come in!" I shout back

They walk in.

A girl with black hair that reached down just past her shoulders with a red eye. Her hair covered her left eye, and it was extremely messy. She was definitely malnourished as shown by her raggedy bones where they had started to pertrude. The callouses on her hands were visible showing an evident amount of training.
