CAMILLA
"Again, I apologise truly at what occurred." Dorian says, there's sympathy expressed on his face—but it seems like an act rather than truthful sincerity.
I feel numb, really. After seeing Carrie—Dorian's mysterious wifes' death—I felt horrible.
I started having doubts about being with Cole, no matter my feelings for him.
It's not his fault at all, I was the one who listened thoroughly to his story and about his murderous sprees and The Corrupts—yet I didn't leave.
Cole feels like my soulmate, we fit perfectly as if we were meant to be.
But is true love worth it when it can affect other people's wellbeing too?
Take Richard for example, I got him involved with this shit and I feel so guilty for that, I can imagine how scared and rueful he is right now.
Cole is staring at Dorian in a renewed light, as if they are hiding something, their own little secret.
I frown to myself—wondering what they had planned.
Dorian whispers something to Cole and he clenches his jaw.
I roll my eyes and just head over to the car that Dorian had lent us for a safer journey since Richard's car had ran out of fuel, despite the fact that we had filled it up before our journey.
I see Richard in the drivers seat, looking a bit flushed, Xavier beside him looking smug, licking his fingers.
Okay.
That was definitely not a normal smug look.
"What's... going on?" I ask slowly as I climb into the back seat.
Richard jumps slightly, his ears reddening. "N-nothing," he stammers, avoiding eye contact in the most painfully obvious way.
Xavier grins without shame and casually tosses the empty wrapper of some candy... or something else—out the open window. "Don't worry about it, Camilla. Just enjoying the ride."
I narrow my eyes. "You have sugar on your mouth."
"It's sweet," Xavier hums, glancing sideways at Richard, who's now aggressively focusing on the road. "Isn't it, baby?"
Baby..? Wait. Hold up.
Richard coughs.
Oh. Oh my god.
My mouth parts slightly in a quiet gasp. "Did you two...?" I scan the car, seeing wet spots and I nearly vomit.
My sweet, innocent Richard... tarnished by Xavier.
"We did nothing," Richard says too fast.
Xavier, still wearing that insufferably pleased expression, leans back in his seat like he just finished a meal. "Define 'nothing.'"
I press my hand to my face and groan. "You guys better not have defiled Dorian's expensive leather seats. He will probably kill us now."
"Oh, please," Xavier scoffs. "It was just a little—"
"Don't." I hold up a hand, feeling sick. "Do not finish that sentence or I swear I will throw myself out of this moving car."
"Too late." Xavier winks at me through the rearview mirror. "You're in it now, milady."
Despite myself, I giggle. Just a little. It feels strange and too light, especially in these twisted circumstances—but I needed it. Desperately.
And then my eyes flick to Cole, who's standing a few feet away with Dorian, still talking. Still tense.
