as he watched his sister get hit in the leg. There was a deep gash there, but despite the grueling pain she moved away from Joker and covered Jason, guarding him with her scarred body. She didn't even shed a tear as green blood seeped from her wounds.

All she had to do was protect Jason. And she hoped she was doing pretty well, not many scars on his body. But it had been three days. Three days since they were taken right off a rooftop and trapped here. They were caught so off guard, and Lily had an inhibitor collar around her neck, keeping her from using her powers.

Jason held onto her, his fear getting the better of him as he hugged his sister. But they were weak. Starving, exhausted, weak. Jason couldn't find the strength to sit up. And Lily was bleeding out so bad Jason didn't think she would make it.

No.

He couldn't think like that. They had to survive. They had to make it for their family.

If anything, Jason was very surprised Lily hadn't killed Joker. But she didn't because she really thought Bruce would have been here sooner. And by the time she finally came to that decision, she was too weak to commit to it. So all she could do now was try to keep her brother safe and hope and pray they would be found.

She yelled at the pain that hit her stomach, pretty sure she felt one of her ribs breaks. Gritting her teeth, Lily held onto her stomach, the throbbing pain matching the one in her head. She felt Jason hold on tight, his uncontrollable shaking of pure terror.

"You know it's not as fun when they start to become fragile," Joker said, dissatisfaction laced in his tone. "Show's over! Time to draw the curtain!"

Jason watched as he set a device on one of the nearby crates of the warehouse, and he immediately started to tear up as he recognized a bomb. Five. The number of minutes they had left to live.

It wasn't fair.

He hoped it would just be filled with Joker Venom. That way even if he died Lily still had a chance at living. She's immune to the stuff for god's sake.

But Joker wasn't that stupid. He knew that deep down. This was it. This was the end. Lily had taken all that pain for him for nothing. All of it just to die. But he was at least thankful the guy left, leaving them to die without that stupid fucking smile.

Lily laughed, blood dripping from her mouth as she did. Jason just stroked a hand through her hair, trying to comfort her. Her arms gave out and she just laid in front of Jason. Slowly blinking every now in then, her staggered breaths telling Jason she was still alive. But he was surprised her psychotic behavior was only just now setting in.

"That's really annoying," she said. Her voice was low and rasp.

"I know. I only had three years left of school," Jason joked, the part of his brain telling him to say this was also the part of his brain clinging on to that hope. Lily laughed again, clutching onto her stomach as she did.

"Yeah. You did. Billy and I only had two because we're able to graduate early." Lily's face turned dark as she remembered. "Oh, god. Billy."

For the first time in the last three days since this all started, Lily started crying. The idea of leaving the boy she loved with nothing but his memories of her sounded terrible.

"It's not your fault. It was all him. Don't ever think of it as you leaving Billy. Joker is taking you away from him. And it's not fair to you two. All Billy did his whole life was be good to everyone, hoping good would follow. And all you've tried to do since joining Bruce is make up for everything you've done. But the world can't be fair as long as Joker's in it. All we can do is hope he ends up dead before he can hurt anyone else. Then the world can be fair."

"But I promised him. We promised everybody we would be okay here. But now we're both just a couple of liars."

"I know." Jason looked over at the bomb, his heart racing wildly, and his chest heaving as he saw the thirty seconds remaining.

"I'm sorry, Jason. I thought I was helping you when I took you off the streets. All I did was get you killed.

"No. You can't think that. I would rather be here than on the streets. I love you, Lils. You're the best sister I could have," Jason told her. His voice cracked as hot tears streamed down his face and onto the ground. He covered Lily, hoping to do something. He just wanted to protect her like she did with him.

"I love you too, Jaybird."

Bruce uncovered his face with his cape, the shock quickly wearing off before he ran towards the destroyed warehouse. He moved around pieces of wreckage, as fast as he could, hoping he could find them.

When he lifted a piece of metal, he saw Jason. His body was still, his back facing the sky, his face relaxed. He seemed at peace.

"No," Bruce whispered to himself. But then he saw her. He moved Jason, cradling him with one arm as the other reached for his daughter. Hearing her slow, staggering breaths. He wanted to cry, but he pulled himself together and yelled at the top of his lungs. "SUPERMAN!"

In a matter of seconds, a blur of blue zipped towards him and Clark looked down at him with a look of shock.

"Take her to the hospital! Now!"

"But Jason—"

"GO! SHE'S STILL ALIVE YOU HAVE TO GO!" Bruce yelled. Clark nodded and picked the girl up before he quickly flew off. Bruce looked back down at Jason, pressing his ear against his chest.

Nothing.

Robin was dead.

Jason Todd was dead.
