Chapter 22

-Gabriel Di Luca-

"How do you know?" I asked in confusion.

Papa stared at me way too seriously for a moment as if he was going to reveal something important to me, that was until he grinned and burst out laughing, instantly making me groan.

"Papa!"

"I'm just messing with you, my little potato!"

I rolled my eyes and sigh in exasperation.

Is this really the same man who made people cower in fear? I really find it hard to believe.

"Your Zia Izzy told me, of course."

I'm still unconvinced though.

"But you seem to know more about the Astor family, Papa. Tell me what you know." I demanded.

Usually, I don't give two shits about other people's business, but this is my Miracle's and I feel the need to know everything that involves her

My desire to protect my girl is so fucking strong.

"You really love this girl, huh? I've never seen you this interested in anyone or anything before, because it's always usually just soccer." He rolls his eyes and chuckles to buy I only eagerly nods my head, there's no point in denying my feelings if I already know what I feel

I already know what/who I want so why do I need to get all shy and deny it? I'm not doing anything about it yet because my girl has been through a lot and getting into a relationship is the last thing she needs, I'm happy to be here friend for now. I've always been a direct person after all, one of the many traits I shared with my father.

"Did you do something to their family?" I narrowed my eyes, staring intently at my father to which he quickly laughed.

"Hey, hold yourself together, piccolo tigre, and don't bite my head off! Of course, not!" He quickly replies.

Well, that's good to hear.

"Declan Astor was my college friend, we both studied in MIT and we were classmates in almost all classes." Papa revealed to me, he was looking in a far away space with a small smile plastered on his face as if he was remembering his old college friend.

This new information shocked me.

And I don't even know that my father went to MIT. What degree did he even get?

"As a matter of fact, I was there when Declan met his beloved wife for the first time in France. During vacation he became so smitten with the beauty and talent of a young famous pianist in France that he impulsively went there with the intention of meeting her, and me being a supportive friend decided to go along with him since I also love hearing French people's accents, especially in bed."

Oh God, I'm going to throw up.

"Disgusting!" I immediately scowled, but he only ruffled my hair again and laughed.

If there's one thing I thankfully didn't inherit from my father, that's his Casanova trait.

"Anyway, as you already know, your father is someone who easily makes more enemies than friends and Declan truly was one of my few good friends who I liked, platonically, of course."

All of a sudden, his laughing and smiling face turned and shifted into a serious and menacing look as he asked me.

"Gabriel, do you know what happened to their family? The tragic origin of the girl you love?"

He really is Declan's friend and he's not just bullshitting me since he knows about that.

"Yeah, Mira just told me." I frowned remembering how much she cried and how broken she looked when she told me, she was also so afraid after telling me, thinking that I would be disgusted and wouldn't want her anymore.
