The morning light filters through the curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room. The alarm clock blares with a persistent beep, jarring him awake from a restless sleep. Groggy and disoriented, he hit the snooze button and stretch, trying to shake off the remnants of dreams and fatigue.
Reluctantly, he pull himself out of bed, his feet touching the cool floor as he shuffle toward the bathroom. The mirror reflects a face still half-blank with sleep, and he splash cold water on his face to clear the haze. The aroma of coffee or breakfast might drift in from the kitchen, mingling with the sound of distant clatter of dishes.
he navigate the morning routine with a mix of autopilot and distracted thoughts, brushing teeth, getting dressed, and grabbing a quick bite. The pressure of the day ahead looms, whether it's school, or other responsibilities. As he head out the door, there's a moment of hesitation—a brief pause where he takes a deep breath and brace himself for whatever the day might bring.
Taehyung: (forcing a smile) "Good morning, Mom."
Minji: (without looking up) "Good morning."
Her tone is clipped, and it's clear from her expression that the conversation is about to take a turn. Taehyung can already sense it, but he hopes—just for a moment—that maybe it won't. Maybe today will be different. But it never is.
Taehyung: (sitting down at the table) "When did you come home? Sorry I didn't pick you up yesterday. I meant to, but things were so hectic... I couldn't keep my eyes open after school."
Minji: (scoffing) "Hectic? Why wouldn't it be? After all, you're the President of Korea and I'm your maid, right? Why would you come to pick me up? You're so important, Taehyung." (pauses, her voice turning sharper) "Is it really time to wake up yet? Because if you keep acting like this, your father will throw both of us out of this house. Why, God, did you give me such an irresponsible son?"
Taehyung: (grimacing) "Mom, not this again. I told you, I just forgot to pick you up. And today's a holiday. That's why I woke up late."
Minji slams a dish down on the counter with a loud clatter, turning to face him with an exasperated expression.
Minji: (raising her voice) "How many times do I have to tell you not to waste your time? All you have to do is study and work hard! We provide you with everything—food, clothes, a house to live in. You even have your own room, more than many kids have. Where are we lacking, Taehyung? Tell me, what have we not given you that you're turning out like this—irresponsible and ungrateful?"
Taehyung: (frustrated) "Mom, I just woke up late today. I don't do this every day. It's a small thing, and you're blowing it way out of proportion. You know what? Forget it. I don't want breakfast. I'm full."
Minji: (angry) "Do you even understand how much effort I put into making sure there's a nice meal for you every morning? I wake up early to prepare everything, and you can't even bother to sit down for five minutes and eat it? It's like you don't appreciate anything I do for this family!"
Taehyung: (his voice rising) "Then what should I do, Mom? Sit here and listen to the same stuff Dad tells me every morning over breakfast? I thought maybe—just maybe—since Dad's not here today, I wouldn't have to hear it. But you're saying the exact same things. Stupid of me to think my mom was any different from my father. In the end, you're both the same. Husband and wife. And me? I'm just no one."
Minji: (in a low, furious voice) "How dare you. How ungrateful. We provide you with everything, and this is how you show your gratitude? By talking back? By disrespecting your mother?"
Taehyung: (seething) "Did you even hear what I said? It's always the same. Whatever. I'd rather bash my head against a wall than keep talking to you."
his hand on the doorknob, and without turning back, he speaks one last time.
Taehyung: "I'm going to Jimin's house. I'm not in the mood to ask Dad for permission, so just tell him when he gets home. Have a nice day."
And with that, he slams the door behind him, the sound echoing through the empty house.
