Conor PoV:

'Bro hurry up we are gonna be so late!' I yelled to my roommate. 'GEEZ IM COMING!' Percy called back, scrambling down the stairs from our apartment, books and pens flying everywhere. 'Oh my days Percy, why are you so unorganised?' I grumbled as we trudged our way through the cold snow, since we missed the bus. It was your typical New York winter, freezing cold and the wind cutting and sharp against our faces.

As we walked, I longingly eyed the warm coffee shops and cafes, bustling with the morning rush of people wanting to avoid the cold. I would have gone in if we weren't almost ten minutes late for school and still had another twenty more to walk. We are gonna be in deep trouble when we arrive.

Suddenly Percy stopped, turning around and going down an alleyway for some reason.'PERCE! PERCY GET BACK HERE NOW!' I shrieked, but he ignored me and went on further. I groaned, running down after him. When I reached him, he was bent over something. As I looked closer, I saw it was a person, a girl who looked around our age, and was absolutely frozen, on the verge of death.

'Holy shit, what do we do?' I asked him. 'Well we can't leave her here, that's cruel!' He replied. He handed me a five dollar bill, telling me to go get a hot chocolate or something for her. I sprinted back down the alley, and down the street bursting into a cramped little cafe.

I grabbed a hot chocolate and a pastry and hurried back to them. Percy had managed to get the girl to sit up, his arm around her, trying to get her warm. I gave him the drink, which he held up to her blue lips, her teeth shivering. He slowly managed to get her to sip some, a tiny bit of colour coming back to her pale face. She slowly stood up, before collapsing in Percy's arms.

'Shit, Conor we have to take her home, she's gonna die if we don't!' Percy yelled. I nodded and we carried her as fast as we could back to our block. We unlocked the door, laying her down on Percy's bed and wrapping her in blankets. Percy stayed with her, as I turned on the heating, got more blankets and fed her some medicine. Around 10 minutes later, her breathing steadied, and her cheeks regained some colour.

She eventually woke after a few hours, her eyes finally opening. I was shocked to see grey eyes, the colour of a thunderstorm. They flicked around, confused and tired, trying to make sense of her situation. She opened her mouth, trying to speak, but had no strength. 'It's okay, you're safe now, I'm Percy and this is Conor' Percy told her gently, not wanting to overwhelm her. She nodded, before falling asleep again.

We left her to rest, googling what to do, before she limped out of the room an hour later. We rushed over to help her and led her to the sofa. 'You're feeling a little better?' I asked. She nodded, a tiny smile on her face. 'Th-th-thank y-you' she stammered. 'Its okay, as long as you're safe' I told her. 'So, what's your name?' Percy asked. 'An-Annabeth' she told us. 'Nice to meet you Annabeth' he replied. Her eyes started to droop again so we brought her back to bed, and I went to the pharmacy to get some proper medicine.

When I arrived home, they were both on the sofa, a bowl of soup in her hands, and they were watching a film. I had so many questions for her, but I didn't want to seem nosy, so I ignored them. I sat down next to her, showing her the new medication I bought, measuring the correct amounts and giving it to her. She has made a huge improvement since this morning in the alley, but there's still a long way to go.

Later that night as we were going to bed, her in Percys room, me in mine and Perce on the sofa, I finally asked her. 'You don't have to answer, but how'd you end up like that in the alley? Sorry, I'm just curious'. She took a deep breath and told us she had been kicked out by her parents for failing an exam, which is just awful. What cruel people would do that?

As the week went by, we nursed her back to health bit by bit. She definitely had made a strong connection with Percy, always wanting to be close to him and helping him with homework and cooking. I found it adorable, it's so obvious that she likes him, yet he's clueless.

A month or two passed of the three of us all together, and Annabeth had found a job and was saving up to rent the apartment a few floors above ours. She and Perce were still being cute around one another, I was secretly shipping them. Finally when the time came for Annabeth to move upstairs, we were all surprisingly emotional. As we said our goodbyes, I saw Annabeth kiss Percy on the check, before bringing the last few pieces upstairs. He turned around in shock, punched the air and whooped. 'LETS GO!'He shouted happily.

Heck six years later and here I am, writing my best man speech for their wedding.
