I ran a comb through Dami's hair and snipped little pieces to make everything even out again. "So you designed those gloves for Jon?" I asked while my brush smoothed through his jet-black hair.
"When Jon's emotions are heightened he easily loses control. To protect the success of missions I prepared gloves built to withstand his rays." He casually explained as if it was no big deal. I stopped and smiled at him trying to cover up his care.
I put down the brush and plopped next to him with a grin. "So when your super friend gets scared, his eyes shoot deadly rays and you put on special gloves that you made so you can cover his eyes and protect him till he calms down?"
"I-" he starts then looks away flushed.
"You must really care for your friend. I'm proud of you Dami, you're becoming quite the little hero."
"We are acquaintances for now." He spats. He thinks then looks around and whispers in my ear, "But between us Greyson. . . I think he might be my best friend--oh--BUT DON'T'T TELL HIM THAT!" he roars terrified. "Jon already has a big head trying to be like Clark." he pouts.
"Who do you want to be like?" I ask tenderly.
"Hm, I do not know yet."
"That's okay," I grabbed a mirror and showed him his new look, "Ta-da! What do you think?" His emerald eyes scanned his new haircut.
"It will suffice," he shrugs. When I found the boys Jon was panicking because they couldn't find Jason and he thought they were lost. It didn't help that a group of losers stole Jon's backpack. Dami said he didn't want to make Jon worry more so they both ran off. I found them huddled up on a rooftop with Damain covering Jon's eyes and his hair cleanly burnt off on the tips. He handled the situation well, Jason however, has a lot of explaining to do. He's lucky I got there in time to find them, if I didn't then- "Greyson I am fine." He points out.
"What?"
"You were making the face." He observes.
"Making a face? What face? I do not make a face."
"That is inaccurate. Wherever you go into your 'mom-mode' as Drake puts it, you make a face." I cross my arms, "Not to mention you were talking under your breath." He smiles.
"Hey, Dami?"
"Yes, Greyson?"
I pause for a moment considering how Jason reacted to the question. But with the way things have been, I need to know how to keep them both safe, especially with the League's random appearance the other day. We still haven't figured out what they were doing in Gotham. "Do you remember Jason when you were with the league?"
He looked up at me then back down, "From the little I do remember and what I have been told, Todd was only there when I was very young. He left long before I did." He fidgeted with his shirt, "There has been a lot I don't remember at the age. It is all just training and . . ." His voice trails off, "and things a father wouldn't approve of."
"You know, I was a real pain in Batman's ass when I was your age." I laughed, "Trust me, there's been a long line of broken chandeliers and not listening. I disobeyed more orders than even Jason did, which says a lot. People always think I was the lively Robin and he was Mr. Grumpy Pants, but it was the opposite. Especially now, things have changed a lot. So whoever you are now, you have the power to change it for the better. But please, for the love of God, stop bringing pets home. I can't babysit them anymore when you're on patrol." I groan. "Alfred the cat's litter box is honestly the worst thing I've ever smelt. And we live in Gotham, Damian. Gotham."
