As the two girls continue to walk through the streets the warm sun slowly starts cooling down. Evelina's voice filled the emptiness of sound while Paige admired the way the sun hit her face. Paige had never admired anyone like she admired Evelina in that moment, and it was weird for her. It was weird how she couldn't seem to keep her eyes off the girl in front of her while she is walking in front of sights she might never see again, but why look at them when she might never see her again.

Meanwhile, Evelina could tell the American was staring and all she wanted to do was stare back. Fear of making things awkward held her eyes, keeping them on the road in front of them. To Evelina there was something special about this girl, there has to be a reason she was thrown at her to be escorted around Italy like the tourist she was. She wished this wasn't the only and last time she would see her, she wished for more time. More time is all she seemed to be asking for lately. From wishing her grandmother more time to wishing Paige could stay longer she felt exhausted. But, she had to keep telling herself that whatever happens, happens for a reas- "How much longer until we are there?"
Her thoughts were cut off. "You have to learn how to be patient, we are almost there." No more words were exchanged.

That weird sense of urgency to keep her eyes back on her tour guide hit Paige again. She felt as if in this moment she had to soak up as much of her face as she could. She couldn't explain it she was just so intriguingly pretty, but she hated the feeling of what she was thinking was wrong.

When they had finally made it Paige immediately recognized a group of girls from school. How badly she wished she could grab her new friend by the hand and hide, but she knew she couldn't. "Hey, is that your group?" She didn't want to answer she didn't want to join them. "Yeah it is." "Oh...okay well that's perfect," Evelina turns to Paige. The awkward silence stings. "You know this doesn't have to be goodbye yet. I can visit you tomorrow." "How? The chaperones would notice you and kick you out," Evelina looks to the side trying to think up a strategy. "Oo! How about I will come to your hotel early every morning and before your group goes out we can hangout!" Her voice was laced with excitement. "Sure, but I don't know the name of my hotel." "Then get your butt over there and ask. Come back to me when you know." She playfully hits Paige's arm causing the blonde to have a weird feeling she quickly put away. Paige nods walking back to her group blending right in. Evelina pulls a random seashell out of her pocket and walked over to the group. "Excuse me." She gave herself a thicker accent. Paige turns around walking up to her. "I think you dropped this." She moves her hand towards the blonde with a cheeky smile. Her smile causes Paige to smile getting distracted. "So?" Evelina quickly asked. "Paige!" One of the chaperones called for her.  As she was walking away getting one last look she whispered the name not even sure if she said it right.

Evelina caught one last glimpse of that golden ponytail before turning around and heading home. She had never met anyone like that before, someone so intriguing. Her thoughts only continued to fill with Paige as she walked slower. Within the little time she knew Paige she knew there had to be something special between them, maybe they were soulmates? Or past lovers? She laughed to herself. When she walked through the front door of her tiny home her mom immediately spoke up. "What's got you so giddy?" "I made a friend!" She pulled herself up to the high table plopping a grape in her mouth. "Is it possible to marry someone you might never see again?" That question threw her mom off guard. "I'm not sure I know what you mean," she leaned on the counter in front of her daughter. "I met this girl today and I think she might be my soulmate, but she lives in like Minnesota." "You know that soulmates aren't always romantic." This all felt overwhelming to her, she had only shared a few words with the blonde and next thing she knew she wanted to marry her? "Oh." "So who is this girl you want to marry?" She teased her daughter.   "Mommm that was just a stupid question I don't actually want to marry her...." she trailed off, "her name is Paige and she got lost from her school group so I helped her." "Well that was nice of you- hold that thought your grandma has to take her medication." Her mom says looking at her watch. When her mom is out of site she sighs moving to her room and slumping down on her bed.

It didn't seem like anyone noticed Paige was gone, which was a sweet relief. When they all gathered for dinner Paige was silent, reliving her day to every small detail. As everyone headed to their rooms she continued to picture her day over and over. She never wanted to forget it. "Paige where did you go today?" Her roommate for the trip asked. "I uh.. got lost...but I found my way back, no problem really." She couldn't help but feel embarrassed. The second the two of them settled into bed talking about their day Paige just let it all out. She talked about how beautiful Italy was but mostly about her new friend. "Do you have a crush on her or something?" Alissa interrupted her mid rant. Her eyes widened at the thought. She didn't want to think of it in that way, she isn't supposed to think of it in that way. "N-no I think of her as a friend." "Good because that would be really weird if you did." Alissa yawns rolling over. She was clearly done with Paige's rant.

For the rest of that night she lay awake staring at her ceiling. She tried to think about herself but her face just kept showing up. It was unbearable. These thoughts like this shouldn't even exist.

The next morning Evelina woke right up. As if she hadn't stayed up the night before thinking about what she would talk about with Paige. She had to know as much as possible before she would inevitably never see her again. She got dressed and out of the house as fast as she could. When she was met with the front of the hotel her smile grew. She was too afraid to go inside, so she paced back in forth outside. And as she waited and waited the anticipation growing, the blonde never showed up. She tried not to let it get to her, maybe she got caught so she would try again tomorrow. Tomorrow came and still no Paige, and she would continue to wait outside the hotel for the rest of the week, but Paige never showed up.

The last morning she tried and eventually she ran back to her house trying not to cry. Why had she never tried to see her again? She was young and confused and it was all just too much. From that day on she would never let her thoughts go back to the girl who never said goodbye.
