Lalisa's POV:I stepped into the club's VIP section nervously as Zara gave me a quick wave. Thank God I was finally here.
"So,what was that about? The call and hanging up" Zara queried after I sat down next to her. Her aunt, the club's owner, served us with cherry-topped cocktails.
"It's a long story, believe me," I muttered under my breath, sipping the drink.
The music in the club pulsated distantly as Zara's birthday party was being held in the quieter VIP section. I was grateful that Zara always remembered how much I hated crowds and steered clear of them.
"I'm still happy you made it here.Tell it to me tomorrow when we go to school tomorrow ,a'ight?" she asked enthusiastically.
I nodded my head weakly. It was late and I was practically dozing. I still couldn't shake off the nerves and surprise from encountering Jace at The Lair.
He had looked so different than the enigmatic, elusive nine year old that lived in the neighbourhood years back. The boy that was once Victor's best friend.
How was I even supposed to recount how I met Zara's biggest celebrity crush by accident and had a "nice" talk with him? What was he even doing in Manhattan of all places?
Then it occurred to me that The Lair was one of the fanciest clubs in Manhattan.
'Course he would be there.
Well, I don't have to worry since he came to club and will leave for wherever he lives by tomorrow. Why would I run into him again?
******I pecked Victor on the cheek, my brother and left for Pinkerton Academy. That's where I and Zara took ballet classes. I walked to the bus stop a few blocks away and found her already there.
" Hi, sweetie," Zara hugged me and I reciprocated the hug. "So gimme the juice. I'm dying to know."
"It's not really that interesting. Let's leave it." I dismissed the subject, trying to avoid talking about it.
"That's where I know that stuff is interesting" she said winking.
My quizzical brow and nervous look gave me away always. I was never a good liar.
"You're not gonna believe me. I know this is going to sound crazy..."
"It won't sound crazy...unless you did something crazy like breaking into somebody's house. Wait, did you?"
The bus halted to our stop, and I climbed in first while my best friend stared at me in disbelief. Was she convinced by my silence?
Zara plopped herself on the space next to mine, my favorite spot being next to the window. "What did you do, Lalisa?"
"I don't know what it took to make do such an embarrassing thing... but I almost got inside The Lair."
"What? Did you have a ticket?"
"I thought I was entering you aunt's club and that the bouncer was being a jerk. Only to find out that it wasn't a bouncer but Jace Swift!" I shuddered at the memory. God, why did I misread the road avenue?
Zara inhaled with surprise. "You almost got inside The Lair? And saw Jace?" she squeaked as a few people gave us puzzled glances.
