Chasing You (Tyler Owens)

PROLOGUE

5 years earlier

I'm already awake when Kate honks the car horn, the excitement of what we were doing kept me up all night. We met during some classes we shared at Muskogee State University and instantly became good friends, apparently we think a lot alike because we both came up with idea of 'taming a tornado'.

That's when we got the team together, Jeb, Kate's boyfriend, Liam, my brother who is the reason why we came here in the first place. We came up from Texas around 2 years ago, him wanting a change, and me following. 

He never let me storm chase before so of course he didn't like the idea when I brought it up. It took a lot of convincing and a huge fight for him to finally give up and agree that it was my choice and he could either be apart of it or not, but I was going it either way.

Javi was good friends with Liam and joined the group too, he had a way with technology that was needed, he even taught me some things. Addy and I shared a dorm and was instantly on board with the idea. She brought Praveen and here we are.

It didn't take long for all to get up and out of our make shift beds, today was the day we tested everything and tried to take down a tornado and we were all excited.

"Spence, c'mon, we gotta make the video." Kate calls me over to where she stands in front of our experiment. Jeb was a few feet in front of her holding the camera. 

I walk over and stand beside her getting ready. I thought I would hate being on video, but it's actually not that bad.

"Jeb, are you sure you're recording? I don't see a red light." She says to him. 

"Oh," he checks, moving his face to the front, "Yeah, recording." He moves it back to us.

I shake my arms a little while Kate makes a blah sound, Jeb laughs as we try to get rid of our excited nerves. 

"Don't make me laugh," She says to him.

"Stop, stop," I try to not laugh, smiling. "Okay." We've got it now and clear our throats before Kate starts.

"Today, our science team from the Tornado Tamer Project is out in the field, about to chase the storm southwest of us," She finishes and I go to speak next.

"Our experiment is designed to decrease the moisture inside of a tornado to see if we can make it collapse." 

"Tell the folks how you do that," Jeb says.

"Well," I go on, "First we gotta find a tornado to suck up our super absorbent polymers in these barrels." 

"Diapers," Addy whisper-shouts at us from the side making me us all turn to her, "Tell them it's the same stuff they use in diapers." 

"It's non-toxic," She says fist bumping me and Kate as she walks over to where Javi and Liam are. 

"The data doesn't show a storm until the afternoon." Praveen says, looking at his computer. 

"Well the data doesn't see what Kate and Spence see." Addy says grabbing her bag and putting something in it.

"How bout Kate and Spence see a few more hours of sleep?" Javi interjects. "Praveen!" Javi scolds as he puts his computer on one of the barrels, "Dorothy's not a desk." Dorothy is what goes up with the polymers to collect the data.

Everyone goes to the front of the barrels where Kate's holding the camera for one last shot.

I go over to pull Javi out of his chair. "Why are you so heavy?" I joke.
