Since they holed themselves up in the apartment, nestling in a nice little vacation to themselves, the pair also focused on this Bible document they'd discovered. The two read and talked on observances of the old testament's thirty-nine scattered books. Thomas immediately noticed rules and dictations. Although the stories confounded him that were of some strange ancient history, the laws themselves were pretty wise to establish peace and order. Looking into Exodus, the Israelites being freed from another ancient culture of Egypt with bizarre supernatural miracles, the Israelites wandered about led by this unknown God. Siren loved the miraculous things, but Thomas merely felt it as some virtual game where anything could be possible. It didn't seem real at all.
The laws caught him so much more tenderly however, God was certainly orderly. The fifteenth chapter of Proverbs struck nicely. The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. Thomas felt that satisfying after seeing one uncorrected injustice after another in his job. The wicked seemed to run rampant. It certainly wasn't getting better. He craved seeing someone capable of getting the world right.
People claimed they were so sophisticated and advanced, more so than any time before, yet why the cruelty? Why did people cause others suffering? Many anonymous comments on videos and virtual projects were so malicious. There wasn't necessity in that. It was wickedness, the sake of being cruel just to hurt. What was so enlightened or cultured about that? He concluded there was nothing new under the sun, wickedness yet permeated a man's heart despite the ages passing.
Wickedness had existed for a long time and seemed staved off by laws matching much of the sensible ones of the Bible. It didn't make sense in an evolutionary sense to be a good, moral person or to follow rules, did it? Not at all, one disadvantaged oneself and lost out to others way more often, yet that alternative cutthroat life of evil didn't settle with him at all.
There was no way following the modern way of life would make society be 'enlightened' by any means. It was spirally into chaos. In cynical jest, Thomas dared people to leave their Crowns on their heads, display their valuables in public, and leave doors unlocked. He could showcase his point very promptly by how that ended. His last morning at work, he recalled the twenty year old kick a man onto the tracks before stealing his Crown. The man might have missed the train in time although lose his Crown, but that hateful thief waited until the very last moment to make sure the train claimed the kill. That was downright malice in action, and it happened all the time.
He read Proverbs chapter three again. He really liked the wisdom of it. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It was very uplifting and encouraging.
His finger swiped to a random chapter in Proverbs. He really liked that book. Coming to chapter sixteen, All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
He chuckled, finding another zinger in Proverbs in the twenty-sixth chapter, The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors. As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
