"Wait a minute! So, you're doing Starlight?" Lucas inquired, rolling his eyes as Andrés finally spilled the beans over our dinner. "What made you decide that, man?"
"I needed a change. My girlfriend pushed me into it," Andrés confessed. "Then she dropped out."
"Was that what you guys were arguing about in the car, Dibujó?" I asked him.
"No, that argument was about her not spending enough time with me and always wanting to hang out with her cheerleader friends. It's become a habit for her to skip our dates to be with them, and she's nothing like those girls."
"Emily is sweet," I chime in, pretending to like her more than I do. Emily was sweet until you pissed her off. But at least she wasn't so confusing as Brook! But there is something off with her! And I can't quite put my finger on it. Every time I come around her, we have a tiny conversation. She and Brook, however, are like sisters. So I don't know much about her. But still, she's weird!
"I can't imagine her wanting to hang out with any of the girls on the cheerleading squad," Lucas added.
"You seem to enjoy spending time with them," Andrés teased Lucas, making me chuckle. Lucas, cheerleaders, it's like he can't stay away from them. And while yes, Lucas is a flirt, like many of the jocks around us, he's been hurt just as much as the cheerleaders.
"I enjoy having fun with them, not exactly hanging out. But besides, I think it's time for a change. I'm tired of the toxicity among them," Lucas admitted.
"How about you focus on your career goals," Andrés suggested. "Learn to be independent and build a life for yourself first. You don't want to make any mistakes with the cheerleaders. And then be stuck with a little Lucas running around," André and I chuckle.
"Yeah," Lucas responded, his gaze distant as if he was staring at something. Before I could catch who or what it was, he snapped his head back to us. "Looks like you'll be running around with the theater freaks now. Don't worry, I'll still love you!"
"What does this mean for you being in football," I ask. Indeed he'll be too occupied with Starshit to be hanging out with the jocks!
"I'll try and do both," Andrés insists confidently. Coach Herrera already knows about my audition. He saw the bulletin about the new kids while coming from a meeting held in the Starlight building. He said it was acceptable if I worked hard to manage my time.
I nodded in contentment. I don't know about Lucas, but I'm somewhat happy for Andrés. I always knew football wasn't exactly his passion. And if acting is something he wants, he should chase after it and act his little ass off!

As we talk, Mr. Santos approaches us. His usual smug demeanor was displayed as he looked at us impatiently. "Hey, Mr. Santos," Lucas greets, smiling from our conversation about how we always came here and wreaked havoc in the parking lot back in middle school.
"How will you pay," Mr. Santos asked seriously.
"Dammit, Mr. Santos! You still don't like us," Lucas said sarcastically. "I thought you were our friend?"
"You boys know we haven't been friends since your little party two years ago," Mr. Santos reminded us with pain.
"Mr. Santos," Andrés interjected before Lucas could be even more of a dumbass. "We apologized and helped you clean up the parking lot! You have to forgive at some point; we were little kids!"
