Since then, I felt comfortable and like myself again-or, more accurately, since the heart-to-heart talk with Choti Ranima.I did not anticipate an apology from her; at first, it felt awkward, but how could I not forgive her? She had battled with everyone her entire life to provide me with an education and a stable environment. I have witnessed her struggle all of her life for me, and the only reason I was unable to refuse any of her decisions was because I lacked the courage to do so. She did not even say anything when I did not perform well on my exams; instead, she got into a fight with her husband so she could enrol me in coaching classes.
Her apology made me feel horrible because, as far as I can tell, she promised my mother that she would give me a stable lifestyle-which is practically unattainable. Isn't that crazy? She is wealthy and, most importantly, a Choti Ranisa, but in reality, she cannot even purchase a hairclip for herself without her husband's consent; she is not even permitted to hold 100 rupees in her possession. This is the life that a woman leads when she marries into the Rajisthan Royal House, the Rathores. A woman living in that house is like a bird in a golden cage-she cannot even have a glass of water without permission.
And according to Choti Ranisa, the Men of Rathore are nothing less than a group of demons that have taken up residence on Earth. As an archaeologist, one of her favorite subjects to study was Christian mythology, which she researched deeply and hence named the Rathores as Satan.
"Where have you gotten lost?" As soon as I heard Abhinav whisper in my ear, my train of thought broke, and I shook my head, leaning on his shoulder and wondering while staring out the car window. I responded to him by saying, "I was thinking about Ranima."
"Can we not ask Bhaisa to join us for Holi?" I interrupted before he could even speak. I looked up to see him already staring at me with his stoic face.
"As if that man would ever show up." Abhinav's voice came out cold. Though I am aware that he and Bhaisa were not on speaking terms, I still miss my bhaisa. Knowing that arguing any longer would only result in a fight, I bit my lip and lowered my head.
"Its not about me, Kavya. Even if we call Yuvraj he would never even consider our invitation let alone coming." I listened to Abhinav and simply nodded in agreement; regardless of my defense, Abhinav is correct. That is what Bhaisa turned into-a ruthless person-after losing his one and only sister.
"We are here," Aarav remarked, who was driving the car while me and Abinav were sitting at backseat. I opened the car door and got down, As I turned to face the main gate, which was open, down the lane stood, the cool breeze caressing my face and the sun's rays hitting my face.
"Is that Yuvraj?" As perplexed as I am, Abhinav mumbled,
"But why is Bhabhi glaring at Bhaisa holding his collar?" Though Aarav spoke, I was still ecstatic to see him.
"BHAI-SA!!!" I yelled from the entrance.
It still seems surreal to me that he is my Bhaisa; I could hardly believe it. I was about to run to him, grinning, when Bruno barked loudly and dashed to meet him first.
