Evander's POV
I feel like she's always running away from me. I should have told her, but I didn't want her to look at me like that. She looked so betrayed. So broken.
After she ran out the door, I waited, completely stunned, for about two seconds befriend sprinting after her. It did me no good though. She's an amazing runner, and was already in the woods.
"Calla!!"
"Calla, please!!!"
Then I realized that I knew this girl better then I knew myself. There was a clearing a couple miles away that I figured she would right to. She would love it. There was a small creek and the place had rocks all over it. She might be afraid of heights, but she loved climbing.
I walk towards it slowly, knowing she needs time, and when I finally stop, I see her. There she is. Looking as gorgeous as ever, perched on the highest rock. I unfurl my wings and make it up there in a couple seconds. I plop down next to her and take her in. She's got her knees pulled up to her chest with her arms wrapped around them. Her head is down in them and while I don't think she's asleep, she's not fully awake either.
She hasn't noticed me, for I've been been silent this whole time. So I do one thing that she loves. I take my left wing, wrap it around her shoulders, and pull her towards me until she's basically tucked under my arm, wing, and chin. She shivers and looks up at me and I realize that she's in her pajamas. Silk shorts and, thank god, a tank top. I pull her into my lap and whisper that I'm sorry, over and over again. I wrap both of my wings and both of my arms around her and warm her up.
"I wish I could make it warmer Princess, but I can't change the weather at will. It changes with my mood."
"How?"
"Well, when I'm sad it rains, when I'm mad it storms, when I'm happy it's sunny, when I'm in pain it snows, when I'm guilty it's cloudy, when I'm nervous it thunders and when I'm really mad it hails."
"When we were yelling, it was a really bad storm. But not hailing. It's been cloudy and snowing all night and day. And now it's snowing and raining and still cloudy. Don't be guilty, Evander. I understand you had to do it, along with the other angels, but it's still severely fucked up and I don't approve. Why are you sad and what's hurting!?? Are you okay??"
God, this girl is amazing. She looks up at me through her her dark lashes and I realize how close she is. I'm falling for this girl. Scratch that- I fell for her a while ago.
I'm staring into her bright blue eyes as she stares it I mine. And I whisper, "I'm sad because I thought you hated me."
"I could never hate you." She interrupts in a low tone as the rain and snow stop.
I smile, then drop it as I whisper my next words. "The only thing was hurting, was my heart."
Then I do something totally instinctive. I bend down, and I kiss her.
She seems stunned, then she turns so she's straddling me. Her lips move against mine like a river. I flick my tongue across her bottom lip, asking for entrance, and she easily complies. As our tongues dance, lighting strikes.
She jumps with a squeal and looks at me worriedly. I chuckle at her as my cheeks turn red. "Um... Lighting is passion..."
She giggles and then we're kissing again. Hard, fast, and meaningfully. Lighting strikes in the background but all I notice is her. I know that there are so many other problems right now, but all I can think about is the girl in front of me. The amazing human that has captured my heart, but I don't want it back.
We break apart and look at the direction of the house when we hear screams.
I quickly grab her and she wraps her legs around my waist and buries her face into my chest.
I fly quickly to the house and as soon as we land, we're both sprinting to the door. We burst in and see the boys all huddled around each other, the younger ones crying in the middle while the older boys just look confused as they comfort them. Calla immediately goes and picks up the youngest two, George and Richard, one in each arm and tries to clam them down. I pick up EJ and Oliver and once we finally get them to stop crying, I look down at Kendall and Juan and see that they're the only ones that are 6 or under not crying.
"We all remember the lightning sounds, the didn't and they wouldn't calm down." Alex explains.
"It was the lightning that scared them?" Princess asks with a guilty look on her face.
Oops.
I can't bring myself to feel too guilty for it as I hold back a snort. Calla fails at this and the boys look at her strangely after her snort. She bites her lip (ergh) and goes to start breakfast. She carries George with her because he won't let go, but Richard comes and holds onto my leg.
I stoop down and clam then down, then I say, "Kiddos, lightning is much like Calla, a really pretty thing, but, is very terrifying." I make sure to say it where she can hear me.
"Nuuuh uuuuuuh!!!! She the best!" Argues EJ while the boys nod in agreeance.
"Ethan!" She comes out of the kitchen holding a spatula with George on her waist. She has pancake on her batter all over her face and George has some on his fingers. Coincidence? I think not!
I snort at her appearance and she shakes the spatula at me and glares. Her face says "IMMA FUCKIN' KILL YOU" but her eyes are playful and caring. She goes to back into the kitchen while George giggles.
I walk in there, take George in my arms, and give her a peck on the lips. As expected, she immediately softens and giggles.
"EWWW!!!!" George starts struggling and the second I set him down, he runs away. "MY EEEEYYYYYYEEEEEES!!!!!!! EWWWWW!!!!"
I chuckle and hop into the counter. She starts to load the pans and about thirty minutes later we both have batter covered faces, 30 pancakes, and huge smiles. We decided that today was purely a pancake morning and so we sat them down with nothing else but juice, prayed, and yelled "DIG IN!!!"
Calla sits back and rubs her belly, sighing. "Damn I'm more full than a pregnant woman at an ice cream buffet." I laugh loudly and smiles at me.
I'm almost done with my tenth pancake that would fill me up when there's a knock on the door.
Shit.
Only two reasons someone would knock. Either Death has a new soul for me, or the council is here.
Calla tells the boys to got to their rooms and stay there until she says it's okay. I'm beyond thankful for her. The boys run quietly upstairs and I head to the door.
"Calla..." I say in a low tone when I realize she's not hiding.
"I'm not leaving you alone! No one can come here unless they're dead and taken by you, an Angel, or Demon. Evander, please."
"No!" I yell. I immediately feel bad when I see her flinch and look hurt. "Princess, I can't lose you. I just got you."
She softens and presses her lips to mine. "Fine. But if there's danger, or you or our boys get hurt, I'm kicking ass." She murmurs against my lips. I give her a small smile and give her a short yet meaningful kiss. I walk towards the door as a more rapid knock occurred. I try to ignore the feeling I got when she said our boys.
I open the door with a glare.
"Why, hello old friend. I'm here, as always, to talk about death. Amusing thing though, this time, it's about yours." Death says with a laugh.
Wait what??!
Suddenly there's a loud clang and Death's eyes rolled into the back of his head as he fell to the ground.
Oh shit.
