Terran Federal Republic

Ah the Earth, a lovely planet is it not? Humanity's home world has seen our greatest achievements and our greatest horrors. Its surface was once Scared by World War 3 and the Nuclear Exchange that followed. However, looking at the planet today many would be surprised to hear that it was once mostly a wasteland. All of that has been confined to the history books. Today, Earth is a true site to behold, its horizon covered with buildings as far as the eye can see. In the early 2250s, the planet was the first to become an Ecumenopolis. The planet's once sacred surface was paved over with cities as far as the eye can see. If you look to the sky you will see several massive rings of metal that stretch around the planet. These rings not only act as a climate control unit for the entire planet, but they also act as an extension of the planet's living space itself, allowing for the habitation of billions if not trillions of people.

At the center of it all is Washington D.C. The planet's capital is unrecognizable compared to its past self. Once the capital of the United States of America, the city has a rather storied history. Many of its landmarks remain, though not in their original place. Much has changed since its founding nearly 600 years ago, but one thing has remained the same, it remains the Bureaucratic center of the United States turned Turn Federal Republic...

--------------------

A beautiful woman can be seen speed-walking through one of the many hallways of Earth's Capital building (It's not the white house, but something else, feel free to share ideas for its name.). From just a glance a person from the 21st century or simply anyone who does not understand Terran technology might assume the woman was in her mid to early 20s. They would surely be shocked to hear that this woman is almost 300 years old. As she walks down the hall she walks by all the portraits and pictures of the Presidents, mainly throughout the history of the United States, but one who has also been the president of the Terran Federal Republic. These were moved from the White House in 2205 when it was decided that a new administrative capital building would be built. She approaches the door at the end of the hallway and opens it. As she enters she sees a man on the far side of the room, he is staring out the window at the city around him. She takes note of how the man is deep in thought and doesn't notice her presence in the room.

???: Mr. President?

The man, who has been identified as the president turns around...

President?: Ah, Sophie it's good to see you. Didn't I tell you to drop the formalities when it's just the two of us? Anyways, what brings you here at this time of the day?

The woman now identified as Sophie speaks up...

Sophie: Well Mr.Presi- I mean Victor, I bring you some strange reports from observation post Ypsilon...

Victor: *Raises an eyebrow* The one in the Esha's system?

Sophie: *Nodding* Yes that one. I believe it's better if I show you than if I explain it.

Sophie hands President Victor a data log. Victor takes it and sits down at his desk. He proceeds to spend the next few minutes reading over what is contained in the data log before setting it down on his desk.

Victor: Hmm... Quiet the interesting set of primitives, aren't they?

Sophie: Yes sir. They have also detected derelict satellites in orbit of the planet. After some investigation, they figured out that these satellites were still active. This is strange considering no nation on the planet is capable of even achieving rudimentary space flight. If you are interested the data log should contain some more information on it.

Victor: That is not the only strange thing. This planet's development path is unlike any other planet we have seen. The technology ranges widely throughout the planet. You can find nations with technology akin to the Iron Age, while others have technology on par with nations of the Early Cold War. Most likely this is due to the planet being much larger than Earth originally was. But, even then such a small amount of diffusion is odd.

Sophie: It seems the scientists agree with you and want to investigate further.

Victor: I agree. I want to learn more about how the technology developed, the races of this planet, and most importantly the strange reading this planet is giving off.

Sophie: *She cranes her head a bit and gives a confused look.* Why the strange readings? The scientists assume it's an energy source of sorts. While it might be interesting to study, it most likely won't be better than our Stellarite reactors considering the level of development these primitives have achieved.

Victor:
You are correct. However, let's just say I have a suspicion on what it might be. Now, what exactly do they want to do?

Sophie: They want to use a terraforming laser on an area in the ocean to create a land mass to act as an outpost of sorts. Then they want to initiate first contact with the Rodenius Continent. A small continent not too far from what they call the Third Civilized Area. After that... well they don't exactly have a concrete plan...

Victor: I see... So what they need is my approval for first contact...

He thinks about it for a moment...

Victor: Grant the request. For the time being, allocate them 5 Infantry Divisions, a Tank Divison, 3 Corvette Squadrons, 3 Frigate Squadrons, a Destroyer Flotilla, 5 Cruisers, 2 Battlecruisers, 3 Escort Carriers, and a Carrier as a Flagship. Take them from the 3rd Fleet which is stationed in the nearby star system. Also, grant them the ability to use Maritime force vessels.

Sophie: Isn't that a bit overboard?

Victor: Probably, but it will be more fun when we see the primitive's reaction.

Sophie: *Sweat drop* Uh... I don't know if that is a good thing...

Victor: Well, it's better to go overboard than it would be to be embarrassed by primitives. We don't want to be arrogant and make a fool of ourselves.

Sophie: Well then... I believe that settles it.

Victor: Is there anything else to discuss?

She thinks for a moment and wants to ask him something, but she hesitates...

Sophie: No... that is all.

Victor: Alright, well it's late. You are dismissed.

Sophie: Goodnight Mr. Presi- I mean Victor.

Victor: Goodnight Sophie.

Sophie walks out, quietly closing the door behind her.

Victor gets out of the chair and walks back over to the window. A figure pops up from the desk. One digital in nature...

???: <<Well master, what do you have planned this time?>>

Victor: Let's just say... we need to clean up a failed experiment.

Codex Log #1:

Ecumenopolis:
A city that covers the entire surface of the planet.

Data log: A device that replaced paper in 2211 as the main form of record keeping by the government, scientists, and a variety of industries.

Corvette Squadron (Terran Size): 5 Corvettes

Frigate Squadron (Terran Size): 5 Frigates

Destroyer Flotilla (Terran Size): 8 Destroyers

Terran Maritime Force: With the advent of Faster than Light Travel in 2200 the word naval vessel became more synonyms with the warships of space that were now needed for Terra to compete on the galactic stage. What was once the United States Navy now had no purpose. However, when warfare takes place on the surface of a planet, sometimes combat must take place in the water. As such the Terran Maritime force was Established. Most of its assets are various types of submarines and small patrol vessels. At least small compared to the naval warships. If anything larger is needed they can just call in an actual warship or at least fire support from one. The Maritime Force is not what you would think of as an independent branch of the Armed Forces like the Army or Navy. It is a sub-branch under the Command of the Terran Navy. After all the Maritime forces vessels rely on the Navies Transportation between planets. In recent years the force has mainly shifted to a submarine focus and surface ships are becoming less common as they are largely considered unnecessary.

(Alright so... rewrite, thoughts? Would you consider this prologue better than the first? Or at least not worse? I feel like I've improved my writing skills over time and wanted to go back and revise some stuff before continuing. Please share your thoughts I always appreciate thoughts and ideas. Also, give me your opinion on the idea of having the codex at the end of the chapter to explain some things. Also, what are your thoughts on me establishing a discord server, would anyone join if I did? Anyways, thanks for listening.)
