The first striking sunrays appeared out of the endless horizon as the north pole's sublime auroras disappeared into the morning sky, and the researchers woke up. Some were already awake due to their excitement thinking of the events that were going to happen that day. It was finally the day where their endless work was eventually going to achieve its goal.

Once everyone was ready they went to the main room to have breakfast together before departing on their expedition. "I expect everyone to be at their fullest attention while we're on the expedition, because, if someone leaves the track in those hostile lands, it would be very difficult to find their way back, especially if there's a blizzard" Barley told them all with a serious look on his face. While he was talking everyone looked at him with scared looks as if they had seen a ghost,m. He then spoke again with a reassuring tone, " However I am absolutely convinced that we're not going to lose anyone and if this unfortunately happens I'll have everyone assigned with emergency guns and talkie walkies out to look for them" Everyone looked at him and some whispered to one another with determined looks on their faces. When breakfast was over, they all prepared for the exploration set for that day.

They exited the structure, and walked out into the snowy landscape.  Their path between the mountains was very narrow, and everyone carefully observed the mountains just in case there were any signs of avalanches. They walked and walked until they heard eerie cracks under their feet and realized they were walking on a frozen lake. They all started running, the small cracked gaps getting bigger and bigger. Then they found safe land outside the perimeter of the lake. Some glanced back at the lake and realised that someone had fallen in and was drowning in the icy lake. It was John. He was gasping loudly, trying  desperately to swim out of the lake, but to no avail. His companions were thinking of ways  to try to rescue him. Everyone was desperately searching for something to lift him out of the icy waters. Unfortunately it was too late, he had already disappeared into the depths of the lake.
