The front door slamming shut jolted me from my sleep, and I stood straight up on the bed again, groaning at the sound. I reached over to check my phone, seeing it was now two in the morning. I had only been sleeping for a few hours.
"Josie?"
I immediately recognized JJ's voice and I stretched my limbs out in front of me before standing up, and going to open the bedroom door. My hand grabbed the knob at the same time as his, and the door was swinging open at me before I got the chance. I stumbled backwards at the force, a yelp escaping my lips as I landed on the ground.
"Oh shit, my bad, Jo. You good?"
I looked up at him with tired eyes, sending a him daggers as he reached his hand out to help me. He pulled me up and I dusted my backside off.
"What the hell, JJ. It's two AM."
"I'm sorry. We hadn't heard from you and I was kind of freaking out. Didn't know you were behind the door," he explained, scratching his arm as he stood in front of me. His eyes examined me, top to bottom, "You okay?"
I sighed roughly, shrugging my shoulders and going to sit down on the bed, "I'm fine, thanks."
He nodded once before clearing his throat and looking out the door behind him, "Kie, she's in here."
I heard her footsteps travel down the hall, and once she got to me she sent a forced smile, her lips pursing together, "Where's John B?"
The pair look at me as I laid flat on my back, rubbing my eyes before answering, "He came here and I talked to him for awhile. He went to go do something. He's okay."
They shared an unconvinced look before turning back to me, JJ's head cocked to the right.
"Well, what did he go to do?"
"He just went to go do something. Something alone. He's okay."
The blue-eyed boy took his hat off and threw it on the dresser before crossing his arms over his chest, "Okay, you expect us to just believe you? You're not going to give us any other information? Do you even know what he's doing?"
I rolled my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose with my fingers. "Actually, yes. I just figured I'd spare the details for John B's sake so he can have some privacy. You should just trust me," I exhaled roughly, pulling the small blanket beside me over my legs.
"Yeah, well, that's not very easy these days," he muttered under his breath.
My eyes snapped open, and I stared at the ceiling, taking deep breaths in and out. The sentence hurt me more than I wanted to admit, but I really couldn't blame him.
"Whatever, JJ."
Kiara scoffed and threw herself onto the bed beside me, bouncing me around before laying her head on my shoulder, "Just leave her alone, Jayj," she huffed, closing her eyes and nuzzling into my side. I smiled lightly at her gesture, feeling grateful she knew in the moment why that would hurt my feelings.
"You two like want me to leave the room or-"
I cut JJ off by throwing a pillow at him, earning a small giggle from Kiara.
"Shut up, please. Before I get creative and throw something else at you," I threatened, catching the pillow when he threw it back to me.
He widened his eyes playfully, walking closer to the bed before retrieving something at the foot. When he picked it up, and I realized what it was, my body immediately began to heat up in embarrassment.
"What, like this?" he questioned with a laugh, holding the picture frame up for me and Kiara to see. I felt her straighten up slightly, and her eyebrows pushed together in her forehead. "Where'd you find this anyway?"
