12. Blockade

We get back to the cave and I see Bellamy stand up, noticing the chains around his hands.
"Nova!" Fia yells across from Bellamy, running to me. I lean down and wrap my arms around her. I can't believe that there was even a slight possibility that I would've never seen her again.

"Where's Lincoln?" Bellamy asks. I stand up quickly.
"Pike put a bullet in his brain." Octavia says. I can hear the pain in her voice.
"O.. O, I'm so sorry." He starts to say before Octavia turns around and punches him.

I push Fia behind me. I don't know what to do. She punches him again.
"Octavia, that's enough." Kane says.
"Kane stay out of this." Bellamy says looking up. There's blood already on his face. He's just going to let her hit him.

Octavia goes back to hitting him.
"Fia, go outside." I say. She shouldn't be seeing this. I feel Fia step away from my side and hear her footsteps leave. Bellamy falls to the ground. Miller steps forward.
"Stop, that's enough." He says. Octavia pushes him away.
"Miller, stay out of it." Bellamy says before getting hit many more times.

I can't just stand here and watch him get beat. I go to step forward but Bellamy sits up shaking his head to me.
"Nova, no." He says. Octavia glances at me over her shoulder. She looks furious. I step back. This is between them, I shouldn't get involved.

Octavia finally steps away from Bellamy.
"You're dead to me." She spits out.

It doesn't take much longer for everyone to relax and sit back down around the fire. Fia's sitting behind me against the wall trying to get some rest.
"I say we run two-man patrols, around the clock. Starting now." Miller says.
"We'll do that. We should be safe now." Kane says. "The grounder blockade is too close for Pike to come looking for us now."
"But are we safe from the blockade?" Bryan asks.
"As long as we stay on this side of the line, we should be." Kane answers.
"If not this should work." I say lifting my sleeve to show the mark.

"What's that?" Harper asks.
"What proves me as Lexa's second in command." I answer.
"I didn't know commanders had seconds." Kane says.
"They didn't. I'm the first. I was asked to stay in Polis with her but I had to save you guys. Once Pike is gone I can go back." I say softly.
"Nova, Lexas dead." Sinclair says looking at me.
"What?" I ask feeling my heart drop. I don't know how to process that. If I would've stayed, I could've protected her.
"Bellamy told us."

"The conclave." I mutter turning to look at Fia who's still sleeping. For Bellamy to have found out she had to have died not long after I left. And the conclave would've happened that same night. Maybe I kept my promise and kept Fia from it. The relief doesn't make the news of her death any lighter, it still hurts. She was my friend.

"How will we know the new commander will honor the 13th clan?" Sinclair asks. It's a good question but not my concern at the moment.
"One problem at a time." Kane says.
"What about Clarke?" Miller asks. "With Lexa gone she's not safe in Polis."
"Clarke made her choice." Octavia says.
"She's right. Our concern should be killing Pike." I say.

"Once we resume our place with the commanders coalition, Clarke will be safe." Kane says.
"Besides all the Natblidas there swore to follow it, Clarke is fine." I say.
"How do you know that?" Kane asks me.
"Lexa had me help train them." I say choosing not to mention how Fia is one of them.

"Bellamy, come in. It's Monty. I'm in trouble. Please say you still have your radio." I hear Monty say. Sinclair picks up the radio and I reach out my hand for it.
"If we respond and Pikes listening.." Sinclair starts saying.
"He's our friend." I say quickly. I don't care if Pike is listening. If my friends in trouble I'm going to help him.
"Go to channel 7." Bellamy speaks up. "Please say you still have your radio. That's seven words after the word trouble. That's code, go to seven." Sinclair looks at me and I nod watching him change channels before handing me the radio.
