Olivia went through her suitcases and picked out an outfit for dinner. She chose a nice pair of black jeans, converse, and an olive Johnny Cash t-shirt. She opted not to unpack anything just yet. She still wasn't sure she was fully behind staying a full month. Olivia also discovered she had her own personal bathroom off her bedroom. She brushed her hair and teeth, throwing on a little mascara and powder.
She stared at herself in the mirror. It felt so weird to look at her reflection knowing what was to come. Olivia walked back to her room, closing the bathroom tight. A soft knock came on her bedroom door.
"Come in." She said, sitting on the edge of her bed.
Her grandfather, Brandon, popped in the room. His green eyes looked worried; his gray brow was deeply furrowed.
"Hey." Olivia said, letting her blue eyes read his gaze.
"May I come in?" Brandon asked.
Olivia nodded, "Yes."
Brandon stepped in, closing the door. He let a gentle smile come on his lips.
"How are you doing?" He asked, leaning against the wall.
"I'm doing OK." Olivia said, "Maybe a little overwhelmed."
"This is very overwhelming. I just wanted you to know how grateful we all are that you decided to come get to know us."
"I'm really glad I decided to."
"We're about to leave for the grill, just come out when you are ready."
"I'll follow you; I'm all dressed."
Olivia stood up as Brandon reached for the doorknob.
"Are you married?" Olivia blurted out.
Brandon glanced behind her with a sadness in his eyes. "I'm a widow. Your grandmother died ten years ago."
Olivia didn't respond, she just followed Brandon out of her room. He led her back to the living room. Her father and Laura were waiting on the couch.
"You look beautiful, Olivia." Laura smiled, standing to her heeled feet. "Are you ready?"
Olivia nodded, "Yeah, I'm ready."
When they were all in the SUV and driving to the grill, Olivia spoke up.
"How old are my siblings?"
"The girl is nine and your brother is five." Her dad said. "They will be at the grill when we get there."
Olivia smiled softly, letting her blue eyes take in the scenery of Mystic Falls.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Her grandfather asked from beside her.
Olivia looked to him, "It is much prettier than I was expecting it to be."
He smiled at Olivia, putting his hand over hers.
"You are more beautiful than the pictures I have seen." He said, gently moving his hand.
The gesture was warming to Olivia's heart. She was very excited to have a family. A dad, a grandfather, siblings, were all things Olivia wanted. However, she missed her mother deeply. She pulled her phone out. Her mother had not responded yet.
"Ready to eat?" Laura asked from the front seat.
Without Olivia realizing it, they had pulled into Mystic Grill.
