chapter twenty-six, into dust.

A few days had passed since Baelon's birth. Alana cradled Baelon in her arms, it was mid-day, and the sun was shining bright.Aegon stood to the side watching her as she rocked him, Aegon was dressed in his riding leathers, ready to ride Sunfyre. Throughout the few days of Baelon being here, Aegon thought his father would have at least said his congratulations, but he never did.
Aegon ran his hands through Baelon's silver curls, the babe was fast asleep, as Alana had just fed him a few minutes prior.
"I can't believe he's still so small." Alana spoke, her gaze down on Baelon as she cradled him in her arms, her expression soft and affectionate.
Also during the past few days, Dreamfyre Helaena's beloved dragon, had laid eggs, and she had been generous enough to give Baelon one, which was now resting in his cradle, it was a white and grey egg.
Aegon chuckled, "He is, but he will grow before we know it."
"Unfortunately, I quite like when they are this young." Alana smiled, before looking at Aegon.
Aegon looked at Alana and smiled, before looking back down at Baelon rubbing his thumb over his cheek. "Perhaps we should think about more?"
"Hmm? You think so?" Alana chuckled, joining on in his sarcastic tone.
Aegon nodded, "You do look ravishing when you are full with our child." He moved his hand to her shoulder.
Alana smiled, before shaking her head. "The Maesters said I need to heal first, in two moons...then perhaps.." Alana gave him raised eyebrows.
"Two moons? I do not think I can survive that long." Aegon sighed, pulling his hand away from her shoulder.
Alana shrugged, trying to keep herself together and to not laugh. "Seems like a you problem to me."
"You are cruel to me." Aegon shook his head, trying to keep a stern face but his face broke out into a smile.
"Maesters orders." Alana shrugged her shoulders again, before looking back down at Baelon.
"Then I shall respect the maesters orders." Aegon raised his hands in surrender, before looking down at Baelon. "I suppose I shall wait for two moons."
Alana nodded, looking back up at Aegon. "Good, i'm going to make sure you definitely enjoy it, for waiting so long." She teased him.
Aegon smiled, shaking his head. "I'm going to leave now for Sunfyre, before I cannot control myself from you."
"Be safe." Alana smiled, before Aegon placed a gentle kiss on Baelon's forehead, before placing a kiss on Alana's lips.
"I always am." Aegon nodded, before leaving the room. The room was now quiet, despite the sounds of Baelon's soft breathing.
Baelon slept peacefully in Alana's arms, Alana looked back down at Baelon and smiled at the sight of his face. She couldn't believe that she could love someone so much with only meeting them in a such a short period of time.
Then the door opened revealing Ser Coren, "The Queen is here, my lady."
"Oh...Let her in." Alana nodded, not tearing her gaze away from her son.
Alana heard Alicent's footsteps on the stone ground, Ser Coren shutting the door behind her. Alana heard Alicent becoming closer, her dress's fabric gliding off the floor.
Alana raised her gaze from Baelon to Alicent, "How is he?" Alicent asked, a smile gracing her face, she stood infront of Alana, wearing a dark green dress, her hair up.
"He is well, though he sleeps and feeds quite a lot." Alana nodded, she couldn't tell if Alicent's smile was genuine or not. "But that is expected."
Alicent nodded, holding her arms out to Baelon. "May I hold him?"
Alana nodded and gently passed Baelon to Alicent, Baelon stirred a bit away from the comfort of his mother but went back to sleep, as Alicent rocked him.
Alana smiled at the sight and sat down next to the fire. Alicent following in pursuit, still cradling Baelon who was wrapped in light blue blanket that Helaena had made.
"I have been meaning to talk to you, Alana." Alicent spoke, her finger brushing over Baelon's silver curls.
"Oh. What is it, your grace?" Alana furrowed her eyebrows.
Alicent looked up at Alana, "Rhaenyra will be Queen after the Kings passes."
Alana let out a sigh, and nodded. "Yes she will..."
Alicent bit the inside of her cheek, "She'll challenge anyone who she thinks will challenge her throne, including Baelon, and your future children." She continued rocking Baelon.
Alana looked at the fire. Alana didn't think Rhaenyra could be capable of killing children, not when Rhaenyra had her own. "-She wouldn't."
"Perhaps not her, but her husband. Have you heard of the rumors regarding Prince Daemon? How he killed his own lady wife. How he takes woman much younger than him to bed." Alicent spoke, looking down at Baelon, running her hand of his cheek.
The room became quiet again, only the sound of Baelon's soft breathing, and the crackle of the fire. Alana didn't want to believe Alicent but she knew deep down, that perhaps she was right? But regardless Alana would protect her family, like Aegon said he would..even if it meant taking away someone's birthright..Alana knew there was no other option.
"Perhaps you are right....."

i don't know if this makes sense but the whole reason that Alana is going through with usurping Rhaenyra in the future is to protect her family also the reason why aegon does it too, but alana knows it's wrong but Alicent didn't rly give her any other option..hope that makes sense..
