Princeps Cottage

Lake District National Park, England

Saturday Morning

9:36 AM

A bright white light burned the skin around my eyes desperate to enter.

The sour taste of magic lingered in my mouth.

I grimaced as I rolled over releasing a weakened moan, my mind as well as my body was groggy and slow.

Crackling sounds filled my ear drums causing me to pry my dried eyes open.

My heartbeat caught in my throat as I discovered myself in unfamiliar territory.

Where the hell am I?

The spacious room was composed of dark wood ceilings, walls, and floors.

A stone fireplace sat cozily in front of me while tall frost filled windows harboring a snowy mountain scene surrounded the entirety of the left wall.

The couch I was laying on was a rusted brown color, the cushions were thick and warm.

Sleek silver pillows stacked on top of one another where my head had laid.

As I sat up and took in the rest of the room I noticed built in shelves full of books lining the wall behind me.

Faint glowing candles lingered in the air occasionally passing by me.

I began retracing the events that happened the night before.

The last thing I remembered was falling asleep in Theo's lap, the rest is a blur.

I rubbed my temples with my fingers as I removed the thick white fur blanket from my lap.

Suddenly the old wooden ceiling above me began to creak.

Muffled voices and heavy footsteps echoed from the room above.

I froze.

Wherever I was, I was not alone.

I began to panic searching my clothes for my wand, I sucked a sharp breath in as I remembered I didn't have it all night.

My limbs ached as I shot off the couch in hopes to find an exit as quickly as possible.

The cold floor numbed the soles of my bare feet as I shuffled into another room.

A large table centered the room with curvy chairs surrounding it.

In my hysterical state I did the only thing I could think of in the moment, I threw myself under it.

Thankfully a fairly thick lace cloth covered it almost reaching the floor to shield my frightened, shivering body beneath.

I waited with my hand covering my mouth concealing my uneven breaths.

My attention shot to the other room as two figures emerged surrounding the couch I was sleeping on.

"Great, she's gone."

"I checked on her not even 5 minutes ago she can't be far."

My palms slammed into the cracked floor as I crawled out from under the table.
