MADHU'S POV

"Life is so boring when you don't have your girlfriend by your side,"

I looked to the side to find Tanya. She had her face in her palm with a sad, depressed cloud surrounding her.

"She is probably listening to The Neighborhood, her favorite band," she said with a sigh.

The whole day was like this: Tanya, acting like she is in Shakespeare's play .

"Maybe she is sleeping," she said, looking at the clock.

The professor was teaching us the usual stuff, but I was busy thinking about Ekansha, I didn't meet her in the break or between classes.

Where did she go?

I let out a sigh but almost laughed when I realised both me and Tanya let out a sigh at the same exact time.

"Don't you wanna date someone?" She asked, looking at me.

"Do you want to get caught by the professor?" I asked in a whisper-like tone as she rolled her eyes.

"Leave the teacher, tell me naa, is there something between you and Ekansha?" She asked, I wiggled on my seat as I looked at the teacher who was busy saying something. I let out a sigh as I looked at her.

"I assure you that there is nothing going on between us," I said, focusing on the notes.

"Tsk tsk"

I looked at her she had a small smirk on her face as I raised my eyebrows.

"Well, that's great. I thought yall were together, and now that that's out of the window, I can give the green flag to Mannat," she said, writing the equation on her note.

"What!" I snarled, almost getting the attention of the students in front of me, I awkwardly smiled at those who twisted their heads in my direction.

"What?" She asked softly.

"What green flag?" I asked, grabbing her hand.

"Ah, well, Mannat likes her. Maybe she can hit on her, you know?" She said, shrugging as my eyes went wide.

"Mannat likes her?"

"Not just Mannat, a couple girls do have their eye in her," she said, turning towards me, whispering in a low voice

"At least a dozen girls are trying to get with her, but she is an air head, in valentines, she gets these cards from girls, but she never really cares about them. She says she is waiting for her one and only," she ranted, I felt my blood boil at the mention of all the girls.

"She doesn't date anyone?" I asked, very intrigued by her rants.

"Nope, she had some exes but they didn't last long, once there was a Rumor she had a one night stand with a girl of our college and it was spread my this one girl, she kept on trying to date her but Ekansha was stern with her decision, she won't be dating anyone unless she falls for them." she added, leaning back as I let out a sigh.

"But you know she is a whole package, she is smart, friendly and also the member of student council so many girls fall for her, plus she is a natural flirt," she said as I nodded.

"But now that you don't like her, maybe I should tell Mannat to shoot her shot,"

"NO," I cut her off as the students in front of me looked back again, this time annoyed. I again smiled awkwardly, hoping that they would lose their hearing.

"jealous?" She asked, raising her eyebrows as I stayed quiet.

"Listen, I'll just say what I am feeling, I think you guys should be together, Ekansha obviously likes you." The moment she said that, I burst out laughing.

"LAST BENCH, what is that noise?" asked the professor as I quickly covered my mouth.

"The heck?" She said, looking at me.

"Why...why would she like me?" I asked between my laughter.

"You know what, I won't help yall, deal with this yourself," she said, crossing her arms with a slight angry pout.

"Okay, sorry, but seriously though, what makes you think that?" I asked, holding my laughter.

"Forget her, what about you, are you sure you don't like her?" She asked as I paused.

"Why did you drag her out of the club the moment you saw her dancing with a girl?" She asked as my jaw dropped a little.

She knows?

"Why do you check your phone to see if she messaged you?"  She questioned as I looked at the other direction.

"I can see that jealousy you have when Mannat is near her, I know that feeling because I feel like that for my girlfriend." she said as I just stayed quiet.

"I am not forcing you or anything, I just feel like you both would be cute together, the rest is on you, do what feels right," she said, I don't know what to say I am almost speechless.

Do I actually like her?

Nah, no way.

As I was busy thinking, the bell rang, one by one the students started packing their stuff. Both me and Tanya where packing out stuff when I heard a sound heard a knock.

I looked in the direction and saw Ekansha. She was looking around. When her eyes finally came towards me, she passed a huge grin, waving at me.

She really looks like a Leonberger...cute.

I got up with a smile. As I was about to move towards her, she looked at the professor, passing glances.

The professor recognized her glances as she shook his head and showed her an "Okay " sign. I was confused. What is this little game that they are playing?

As she caught the sign, she smiled wider, clapping and bowing at the professor and showing him thumbs ups.

"Hey, you come here," he said, I paused, looking at Tanya as she looked at me too. We both made our way towards him.

"Aap new admission hain na?"

I looked at Tanya, hoping for a helping hand she understood my gaze and quickly came forward, saying.

"Sir, she doesn't know Hindi,"

"Ohh, okay, no problem, I was asking you if you were a new admission?" He asked as I nodded.

"There is an academic tournament, and from our branch, 5 students are supposed to go, but unfortunately, one of the students dropped. Will you be fine with participating?"

Oh damn,

I have never participated in many tournaments, but I am good at chemistry, so maybe I can try?

"When is the tournament?" I asked.

"it's on the 5th of next month, you have one week to prepare."

One week?

Is it enough?

I felt Tanya bulge my arm, as she passed me a "say yes" look. I nodded as the professor laughed.

"Fantastic, this will help you in getting some extra credits, I have seen your work, so I am sure you'll win something," he said as I just smiled.

I have to win!

"Okay, now class dismiss!" He shouted as we ran off.

"All the best Madhu, make sure to snatch one of the trophies." She said this as I nodded.

We discussed how to prepare and where to reference our work. As we were walking out, I saw our friends approaching us.

She was there too, running towards me excitedly. The moment she was in front of me, she asked,

"Did the professor say something?"

I nodded, explaining everything that happened.

"Oh, great! By any chance, did he say anything about me?" She asked, her eyes looking at me with so much expectation. I shook my head as her face and shoulders fell.

I heard a burst of laughter from Raghav and Naveen.

"What happened?" I asked as the guys just shook her head. I looked at Tanya as she just shrugged. Finally, I looked at Muskan.

"You know what? Leave it. You guys drop her off at the parking lot. I have to put that old man's car in the teacher parking lot." Ekansha said with a sad pout as she slouched and walked towards the parking lot.

"Why is she so gloomy?" I asked, looking at Muskan. She looked at Raghav as he avoided her gaze.

"Well, let's just say someone really tried to convince the professor to add a student to the academic tournament, and the professor unfortunately did not tell the student who recommended them," she said with a shrug.

"There is a difference between recommending and almost begging," Naveen added as Raghav hit his stomach.

Oh,

She did it.

I felt Tanya pull my arm as I looked at her. She stared at me for a second.

"Still in denial?" She asked in a whisper-like tone.

"I'll get going," I said, walking fast towards the parking spot.

She might have done that because she wants to just help me.

I pulled my phone out, pressing the "Q" icon. I wrote the situation down and asked for help.

They will probably know, and I'm sure they'll say she did it because she is nice. No way, because she likes me or anything.

I posted as I switched it off, walking towards the parking lot. I said she walk towards her car, the sadness still on her face.

I walked towards the car, opening it and sitting in the passenger's seat.

She didn't say anything; she just started the car and began driving.

Ahhh!

This is annoying; she doesn't look good when she is gloomy.

I took a deep breath and asked,

"Did you recommend me?"

Within milliseconds, she twisted her head in my direction and nodded slowly.

Cute.

"Why, did the professor say something?" She asked, worry clearly showing in her voice.

"Ah, yeah, he did; thank you," I said, her face immediately lighting up as the usual smile came on her face.

"Aye, no need to thank me; he knows you are so smart and such a great student. Trust me, it's not because I said something; he just knows that you are such a wonderful student, always sincere and always."

"Okayyy, I understood," I said, cutting her off as she was just rambling about me.

"But still, thank you for having my back," I said, smiling as she smiled wider.

"And by the way, don't get all gloomy so easily; your smile is so pretty," I blurted, the words leaving my mouth without realising. She paused, her smile dropping.

Oh shit,

I realised what I said, and my heart suddenly started beating louder.

Did she find it weird?

Her face was static, not showing much emotion for a second. I looked away, and my heart started to almost come out.

Please God, I hope she didn't find it weird.

I peeked in her direction, waiting for a response, but then I realised something.

Her ears are red.

I looked at her face; she looked slightly flushed. She seemed to feel my gaze as she looked at me for a split second, gulping as she said,

"Ah, uh, th... Thanks you; I mean, you are prettier, like your smile." She stuttered as I smirked.

Someone is shyyyy!

"Comeon, you are prettier; you look good in a white shirt, like the one you are wearing," I teased. Watching her look around, trying to focus on the road, it's obvious that she is getting flustered.

"Oh, please, I'm sure you look pretty if you are not even wearing anything!" She exclaimed.
.
.
.
well shit!

My heart stopped at her words, heat rising to my cheeks and the overall temperature rising as I just looked in front of me.

"I ...I..I mean, if you wear anything, not like that....I swear I didn't mean it in that way," she stuttered, glancing at me and the road.

"Ah...haha..yeah I know...don't worry," I mumbled. An awkward silence grew as I wanted to jump out of the car.

Why did I start this?

I tried to break the silence by asking.

"Where is the tournament taking place?"

"Manali," she responded as my jaw dropped.

"Manali?" I asked as she nodded.

"Isn't that too far?"

"Well, it was decided by the organisers; don't worry, it will take like a day to reach." She said this as my jaw dropped again.

"For how long, like, did the whole tournament last?"

"Well, you will just have to stay in Manali for one...." She paused.

"Actually, you have to stay for four days," she added as I gasped.

"FOUR DAYS?" I shouted as she flinched, almost making the car turn to the left side.

"Don't scream!" She said this as I nodded.

"Why four, though?" I asked.

"Well, because your tournament is on the fifth, but I will leave on the third, and since I won't be here, won't it be hard for you to reach the college?"

"That's not a big deal; I can ask Muskan or Tanya to drop me." I said as she belted.

"NO!" Now it was my turn to flinch.

"Huh?"

"Uh, actually, if you come later, it will be hard to manage the students, you know?"

"How is one student going to make it easier for you guys to manage?" I questioned her as she just sighed.

"I mean, it's fine though; you can just come with other students; honestly, why would you want to stay there for four days? Even I try to avoid it," she confessed as I giggled.

"Why?" I asked.

"Rooms, you know."

"Rooms?" I asked, confused.

"Remember I said how this girl paid me for, you know, spending the night with her? Yeah,  it kind of happened because we went to one of these tournaments; at that time we shared a room, and she asked me to spend the night with her as we both were drunk," she said, confused as my jaw dropped and blood was boiling.

"We always have to share rooms in two pairs; this time I was hoping that you would come. I'll be more comfortable with you. It's okay though; I'll ask Mannat to come," she said as I felt my eyes almost bulge out.

"Aye, no, I mean, I will come. What's with four days? I will definitely come!" I blurted, hoping to convince her. Her face lit up as she asked,

"For sure?"

I nodded as she gave me a thumbs up.

"Well, then start preparing for the tournament. I hope you do your best, Sona," she said, as I nodded.

I will do my best!
