"He said this is just temporary..." Karlie says while she helps Taylor to stand up.
"Well what if it's not?" Taylor grabs the girl's arm and patiently waits while Karlie gathers their stuff.
"He's a doctor, Tay, I think he knows what he's doing"
They're in the hallway now and Taylor is holding tightly on Karlie, like her life depended on it. When they pass by the rooms, Karlie is not even surprised to see some shocked stares from people in the building. After all, it's not everyday you see a popstar completely disoriented walking around a hospital with a supermodel by her side. Fortunately, Taylor can't see all the commotion around her. Literally.
A moment passes before the now blind girl breaks the silence.
"You know what, he could be wrong! What if I never recover? What if I'm faded to be blind for the rest of my life? I'll never be able to watch Law & Order again! Do you know how much I like to watch Law & Order, Karlie? A LOT. And I have a concert next month and-"
"Okay, enough with the drama, Meryl Streep. You just rubbed your eyes with your peppered hand, it's nothing major."
Karlie struggles to keep a straight face for the sake of her friend, until she reminds herself that Taylor actually can't see her face at all, witch makes her crack a large smile on their way out of the hospital.
"I fucking hate jalapeños."
------
"Where's my mom? She said she'd be here to take care of me."
"I told I could handle it for a couple days, so I'm in charge now."
"Why??"
"Because there was no reason for her to come all the way from Nashville to New York when I'm already here."
Taylor carefully steps closer and lifts her hands until she's touching her brother's face.
"Whad arw yoou doin?" Austin manages to say as his sister plays with his face like a playdooh.
"Nah... it doesn't seem like mom."
"Taylor, don't start-"
"Austin, I don't feel comfortable with you doing this." She crosses her arms on her chest. "You can't even feed Meredith without her making you cry!"
"It happened once!"
"Whatever. I can't have you doing this."
"What do you want me to do then, high maintenance?"
Taylor pauses a moment and smiles before saying
"Call Karlie back."
------
They had a mostly uneventful evening, with Karlie keeping an eye on the cats and helping Taylor to move around the house, though the last task was practically rare to be needed. The singer had been lying on the couch for hours, occasionally petting Olivia when the cat called for her attention.
Karlie slowly approaches the girl and quickly grabs her blanket, earning a groan from her friend.
"Get up. You've been glued to this couch all day."
"I'm debilitated!" Groans Taylor trying to pull back the blanket, but reaching the air.
"No you're not. C'mon, Tay, you've been sitting here for hours. Are you gonna be like this for the entire week? It's not healthy."
"Yeah, well, I eat bacon as well, Karlie. Deal with it." Taylor says dryly.
Karlie narrows her eyes, which obviously does nothing to change Taylor's behavior.
