"Never wield such power, you forget to be polite. And if I didn't know better, I'd think you were listening to me now."-Taylor Swift (from her song, "Marjorie")
Kenzie's POV
"I'm queen of the world!" I grinned, looking down at Laur and Ange.
"You're sure the flower crown isn't going to your head?" Ange jested, and Laur snickered next to her.
"Of course I'm sure; the crown's just a bonus," I replied, adjusting it as I spoke.
"C'mon inside, girls, it's time for dinner! You don't want the kitchen fairies to get to it first, do you?" Aunt Lyla called.
"Alright, alright, we're coming!" I laughed, starting to climb down.
"Be careful, Kenz," Angel cautioned.
I was shifting my weight from one branch to the next, but my foot slipped. Shock seized me and I fell back before I could catch myself.
"Mackenzie!"
Panicked footsteps and my sisters' cries for help were the last things I heard before the world went dark.

Bolting upright, I winced at the head rush, and someone reached out to steady me when I tried to sit on the edge of the cot. "Hey, Kenz, you're alright."
Looking up, Ally handed me my glasses and I put them on, reorienting myself. "Thanks, Als, and sorry about that; just a nightmare. What time is it?"
"You have nothing to apologize for, Ells, and it's 2:25," she replied, setting aside her sketchbook and setting my bag next to me.
"I should still be able to make it to Choir, then," I nodded, lacing up my Vans and digging my phone out of my bag. There was a new message from Dad, "The office called to let me know what happened. I hope you feel better soon, and let me know if you want me to pick up anything on my way home.🧡"
"Don't worry, I got some rest in the nurse's office and I'm feeling alright now. Alice invited me over to her house, so I'll be going there after the audition workshop; if it's a sleepover I'll stop by the house to pack a bag. Pick up some cherry cordial for me?🍨 I love you, have a good day.💜"
"I'm glad to hear it, and will do. Break a leg, kiddo; I love you too!🎭"
Smiling at the last message, I slid my phone in my pocket and grabbed my bag. "How are you feeling?" Nurse Cheney asked when she walked in.
"A lot better, thank you. I guess I didn't get as much sleep last night as I thought I did," I replied.
"Good, just don't push yourself too hard, alright?" she smiled.
"Yes, ma'am," I agreed.
"Let me write you girls passes, and then you can go," she nodded, taking a seat at her desk and jotting something down on two slips of paper. "Here you are," she finished, handing us each a note.
"Thank you for everything," I said.
"Of course, have a nice weekend, ladies," she waved as we left.
