The drive back to St Ignatius was quiet. Dimitri was focused on the road ahead, but still communicated with Kat through their link. They had discussed what this new information would mean for their relationship. She couldn't wait to get back to the library to do some research on Day walkers. She was excited that she could live in the sun, leaving more time to spend with Dimitri. They had stopped at the castle. The group said their goodbyes and Kat and Dimitri went back to her room.
"I really need a shower," Kat said as Dimitri closed the bedroom door. "Would you like to join me?"
"I would love to Printsessa, but I have duty in a few minutes. And if I get into that shower with you, we'll be busy for a lot longer than a few minutes. But tonight, you're all mine." He bent down to where she sat on the bed and gave her a kiss that left her breathless. "I love you," he said as he left her room. Kat took a quick shower and went to go find her mother. It was just about to be morning, so her mom was in her chambers with her husband.
"Hi my little bee. How are you?" Her mother asked her.
"I'm good mama. I need to tell you guys something." Her father sat up straight in the bed, giving her his attention.
"I'm a day walker," Kat blurted out, not knowing how else to tell them.
"We know baby, so are we," Kat's mom explained.
"What?" Kat asked, extremely confused.
"We're day walkers as well. Our families went into hiding when St Vladimir's brother hunted us down. We wanted to tell you, but we couldn't find the right time."
"Do the boys know?" Her parents nodded. "What about the legend?"
"The legend is true, in a way. One of my friends had a prophecy about you. So, we decided to create a legend."
"What do I do in the prophecy? Prophecies are about important people."
"You share a bond with Dimitri. This is the first Soulmate connection between a Dhampir and a Moroi, in ever. Soulmate bounds up until now have been between Moroi. That is what you will do. Or already did I suppose," her father said.
"What else aren't you telling me?"
"You and Dimitri will be an unstoppable pair. You'll fight together and you will bring back the use of magic as a defence. You'll do great things Bumblebee." She tried to see the positive in the conversation that she had just had with her parents, but she couldn't. The news sat like a heavy feeling on her chest, constricting her airflow. She struggled to breathe as she was walking back to her room, a panic attack taking over. Just as she was about to succumb to the panic, strong arms made their way around her, tucking her into a familiar chest. "Breathe Darling, just breathe." His voice made her relax a little, allowing her to take a deep breathe.
"Tell me five things that you can see," he instructed.
"You... the grass... that weird looking pebble... a red beatle and my shoes," she replied calmly. Her breathing had returned to normal and she stepped out from his embrace. "How did you know that would help?"
"I know you suffer with anxiety, so I did some research."
"That means so much to me, Cowboy. Thank you."
"You don't need to thank me for taking care of you Printsessa." Overwhelmed with feelings for him, she grabbed the front of his shirt to bring him down to her. She smashed their lips together and his hands pulled her closer to him.
"Let's go continue this in your room. I've been wanting to have you all for myself, and I think I've been waiting long enough," Dimitri said following it with a quick kiss.
.........................
"What is your biggest dream?" Dimitri asked her as they were lying in her bed.
"A house," She started, and paused to better formulate her answer. "A home. Maybe in the country side. A few kids running around. A husband who not only loves me, but adores me. Not worrying about if we're going to survive the night. Freedom. What's yours?"
He took a minute to think about her answer and he realised, that he wanted that too. A family. And maybe with her, it could be possible.
"I never really allowed myself to dream," he started. "Life as a guardian is always so unpredictable. My life was never my own. But lately, I've been daydreaming. A wife, a few kids, maybe even a dog. I just want a loving home and family. I want to get my mom and sisters out of the communes and into a respectable neighbourhood."
"That sounds lovely," she said as she moved closer to him, placing her head on his chest.
"What dog do you want?" He asked her. She smiled at him, knowing what he was subtly saying. He wanted them to create a life together.
"A big one, maybe a German Shephard. Ooh, or a Husky."
"I'd like a Husky," he replied.
"Can we also get a cat?"
"Of course we can Printsessa. A ginger one?" She nodded against him. They continued talking for a bit, before the fell asleep, dreaming of their future.
..........
The next few days past in bliss. They were just about to leave the Royal tour and go back home. Kat had a few more things to pack when Dimitri showed up at her door.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked her. She zipped up her bag and he moved forward to take it.
"I've got it Cowboy. It has wheels. Can you carry that one?" She asked nervously, as she pointed to what looked like a heavy bag that laid on her bed. He moved toward it, stopping when he read what was on the tag.
"Happy Birthday Cowboy," she spoke the words aloud.
"How did you know?"
"I called your sister, Alina. She told me."
"Thank you, Darling." He sat and opened the bag. Inside was a small wrapped box. He tore open the side and was met with a folded-up piece of paper. He unfolded it and was pleasantly surprised. It was a deed to a house just outside the academy.
"What's this?"
"It's a home for your sisters and your mom. It's a very respected neighbourhood, not that far from my family. It's already been fully paid for, and it's fully furnished," she said. "They can change anything that they want of course..."
Dimitri kissed her passionately, trying to explain his gratitude towards her. She was originally nervous as to how he would react, but she was happy that he was happy.
"Let's go home," he said and kissed her again. And home they went.
