Nick's POV
"Daddy stop it!" Madeline is protesting as I drag her away from the car.

Margaux did not return Madeline to me. She took her and it's been an entire day. I had her tracked down. Taking Madeline from her is a task on it's own.

"Stop struggling Maddie!" I am one last strand of patience away from throwing her over my shoulder.

"Stop it! She's my mom!" She protested. I glanced at her once we reached the car. Her blue eyes are brimming with tears. "She's my mom."

Margaux is back at her car staring in silence. I can't read her expression. Paying attention to my daughter's emotions, I came down on one knee. "Madeline, I don't think you should shed any tears for her. She's not worth it."

"I love her! She's my mother! Why do the rest of your children get to be with their mothers but I can't be with mine?"

"Because your mother is wicked. That's why."

"Just because you hate her doesn't make her bad! Just because she doesn't get along with Kei doesn't make her bad!"

"Calm down. We are going home. We will talk about this later. Now will you get on the car or do you want me to put you in the car?"

Julio opened th back door for her. Without challenging me any further, she got inside. I turned my attention to Margaux.

"What are you trying to do?" I questioned her.

"Whatever do you mean Nickolas?"

"Stop poisoning my daughter's mind!"

"She's my daughter too! Did you push her out if you Nickolas?"

"We had a deal! You took everything I had in exchange for her. You traded her for money. Why are you back here? Did the money run out?"

"Yes Nickolas. It did. My rude grandmother left ne nothing." She answered bluntly. "On a different note, I've turned over a new leaf!"

"And I'm the pope! Take your BS, somewhere else. You stay away from my daughter!"

"Or what?" She questioned me. "What will you do?"

I got close to her, close enough so that she can feel my breath. She looks uncomfortable. "I'll wipe you off the face of the earth. I'll exterminate th very memory of you. Stay away from my daughter." I spoke in a firm tone.

I backed away and just when I turned my back to her, she gripped my wrist. "It must suck to lose, right? Losing her over and over again to other men must kill you!"

I broke free from the grip.

She didn't follow or say anything else.

Yes, it hurts to lose Kei over and over again. I'm scared I'll grow numb because of her absence.

***
Things tend to simmer down after dinner. The kids are in bed. It's the perfect time to talk to Madeline.

She is lying on her b d, facing away from the door. Her food is untouched. Why can't all of them be like Marcella? She will eat even when she's sick or sad.

"I know you're not asleep. Can you please turn over so that we can talk about what happened today?"

"Can you disappear?"

"Unfortunately for you, no." I sat on her bed. "Turn over."

She reluctantly did so. Like Marcella, she's pretty too. I have pretty daughters. I'm proud of them.

"Why don't you want me to see my mother?"

"Because she's a bad influence. I would hate for her ill character to rub off on you."
