It is Friday, I am sitting listening to Mr.Medina talk about Emily Dickenson, well writing detail notes. "There's a certain slant of light, winter afternoons that oppresses like the heft of cathedral tunes." That, my friends is the first verse of a poem by Emily Dickenson. Now read some of those tonight, and as you do, consider the fact that Emily Dickenson writes convincingly about passion and about the world in spite of the fact that she lived as a virtual recluse. It'll help you appreciate her mind." Mr.Medina said. I quickly pack up my bag. "God, I could listen to him talk about passion all day. Do you think he's dating anyone?" Madeline said. "Of course he is." Louise said. "A teacher?" Madeline asked. "Please." Louise said. "Why not?" Madeline asked. "Please have you seen the teachers here. So not appealing." Jacqueline said. "Have you seen teachers? See even Jacqueline agrees with me." Louise said. "He's a teacher." Madeline said. "Male teachers are different. They can still be mysterious." Louise said. "I bet his girlfriend's pretty." Madeline said. "I bet she's dumb." Louise said. "Why?" Madeline said. "Dumb girls crave smart men. It's that whole Marilyn Monroe - Arthur Miller syndrome." Louise said. "She must be really dumb, to fall for teacher. They don't make enough." I said.

After this Jacqueline, Marta, William  and I walked away. We went to our lockers and headed off to our next class.

Fast forward to dinner

I am sitting at the dinner table. I an wearing a white sweater with a white shirt with a beaded collar underneath and a pink skirt. I paired it with pink heels, pearl necklace, pearl earrings, and  pearl bracelets. My hair is pinned up and curled.

"How's the squab?" Grandmother asked. "It is a perfect, Grandmother." I said. "It's good." Rory said. "Lorelai?" Grandmother asked. "It's the best tiny, weird bird I have ever eaten." Lorelai said. "I'm glad." Grandmother said. "Why are you smiling like that?" Lorelai asked. "What are you talking about?" Grandmother asked. "You're smiling." Lorelai said. "I'm happy." Grandmother said. "That's not your "I'm happy" smile." Lorelai said. "Well what smile is it Loerlai?" Grandmother said. "Grandmother is just smiling." I said. "That's your "I've got something on Lorelai" smile." Lorelai said. "Rory your mother must be very tired." Grandmother said. "She works a lot." Rory said. "I grew up with that smile - I know that smile." Lorelai said. "As did I. It is just Grandmother's smile." I said. "Tell me about school." Grandmother said. "Well, my French final went pretty well." Rory said. "That is wonderful. Victoria got another A+. I am going to have it framed." Grandmother said. "You can change the subject. I know the smile." Lorelai said. "Whatever you say dear." Grandmother said. "I've used it a few times myself." Lorelai said. "Mom." Rory said. "So tell me about parent's day?" Grandmother asked. "What?" Lorelai asked.  "Parent's day? Next Wednesday? When all the parents are supposed to go to the classes with their children all day long? Grandfather and I are planning on going to Parent's day for Victoria this year. Since Christopher is unable to make it this year." Grandmother said. "The Chilton newsletter came out today!" Lorelai said. "Yup." Rory said. "The Chilton newsletter letter comes out every Friday." I said. "Right." Lorelai said. "You didn't read yours?" Grandmother asked. "Not yet." Lorelai said. "Ah." Grandmother said. "But you knew that." Lorelai said. "Well." Grandmother said. "Hence the smile." Lorelai said. "There is nothing going on." I said.
