They had found a small village in the swamp, who had let them stay with them. Athena had cleaned her sword in the swamp, spending most of her time alone.

She could hear Alfred's child crying from a distance. Athena felt sorrow for the young child, knowing it must be hard for Ælswith and Alfred, having to watch their child go through pain.

She ran her hands through the water, washing the blood off of her hands and her sword. She narrowed her eyes as she looked up at the sun.

A twig snapped behind her, making her quickly turn around, her sword raised, but she soon dropped it as she saw Alfred's daughter, Æthelflæd.

Athena sheathed her sword, sparing the young girl a smile before turning back to the water. "Does your mother know you are out here?" Athena softly asked, hearing the girl step closer. "I know she would not want you out here...especially with me."

"My brother won't stop crying." Æthelflæd uttered, running her hands through the grass as she looked over at Athena. "He is ill."

Athena spared her a soft look, patting the grass beside her. The young girl froze for a moment, before taking her seat beside Athena. "Your brother will be fine, dear." Athena breathed out, looking down at the figure beside her. "He is just sick."

"I don't know." Æthelflæd shrugged her shoulders, playing at the grass at her feet. "Mother is worried, she never stops crying."

"That is because your mother loves your brother, and she loves you." Athena smiled once more, resting her chin in her palm as she looked down at her. "She just wants him to be well. She wants you both to be safe."

Æthelflæd slowly nodded her head, looking up at Athena with a sad smile. Athena was taken back when the young girl wrapped her arms around her, holding her in a hug.

Athena let out an awkward chuckle, not knowing what to do. Was she aloud to hug the Kings daughter?

Nevertheless, Athena patted the young girls back, hugging her back. "Thank you." Æthelflæd uttered, pulling back and looking up at Athena. "You're kind."

Athena chuckled, smile on her face as she ran her hands though the girls hair. "I try to." She tilted her head to the side, making the young girl chuckle. "Come on, let's take you back to your mother. I fear she'll curse me if you're not back." Athena scrunched her nose up with a grin, getting to her feet and helping Æthelflæd up.
