Melusine was saddened at the fact her people had gone back to Wessex, to speak about her and Æthelflæd's return.

But, she had learned of the love Æthelflæd had for Erik—the pair wanting to run away together. Melusine found it ironic, a Saxon Lady falling for a pagan Dane.

Deja-vu.

Melusine sat on the cot, her back rested against the wall as she held a book in her hands, that Erik had generously gave her. "Are you sure of this, Lady Æthelflæd?" Melusine suddenly spoke, her words quiet as she looked up at the brunette, who was waiting for Erik.

Æthelflæd looked over her shoulder at the older woman, a smile decorating her beautiful features. "I am, Melusine." She nodded with a persistent look. "Erik has treated me with more respect than my own husband."

Melusine's brows pinched together at her words, a sad expression on her face as she stared at the younger woman.

But they both turned to the doors as they opened, but both relaxed as they saw Erik walk in. "Do you have it?" Æthelflæd walked over to him, grin on her face.

Erik smiled down at Æthelflæd as she sat on the chair, the small table in front of her. He reached into his leave to pull out paper, feather and ink. "Is that enough?" He asked her, making Æthelflæd nod her head.

"Yes." She softly said, the smile never leaving her face as she picked up the ink and feather. Melusine looked at the pair, keeping her place on the bed as she continued to read her book.

"Uhtred can read?" Erik wearily asked, sitting down in front of Æthelflæd with a look of uncertainty. "Or Athena?" Melusine bit back a chuckle at that.

"All of my father's ealdormen can read and write." Æthelflæd simply said with a smile, dipping the feather into the ink. "Although the letters Uhtred has written you could found with one finger. The same for Athena." Æthelflæd quietly chuckled, recalling the time Athena had sent her a letter, one that Meluisne had helped her write, but Æthelflæd did not understand it one bit. "I fear Melusine's lessons have not worked yet."

Æthelflæd then reached out to hold Erik's hand, noting his slight frown. "I will teach you." She promised him with a soft look.
