Five whole years. Me and Killua had been traveling for four. Alluka had left three years ago to explore on her own. It's been two years since we'd seen any of our friends. And one year since we moved into our house.
It was the same house that I'd inherited from Louise nearly six years ago. Killua and I would be celebrating our seven year anniversary soon, if you didn't count our brief break up, which we didn't. We'd been together since I was twelve and he was thirteen. He was only a few months older but I digress. As of right now we were both nineteen and living happily at our small house in the countryside. Killua's brother Illumi had long since given up on trying to bring him home so we'd finally been able to settle down.
We had our moments, it was touch and go sometimes but we always stuck together. I could never imagine life without Killua. And I hope he felt the same way.
In all our time after the Chimera ants we hadn't gone on a single mission for the hunters association. It wasn't really something we had an interest in, especially with Cheadle as the new chairman. So it was quite a surprise when we'd received a letter in the mail inviting us to be examiners in the next hunters exam. It was the 293rd year.
"What's that?" Killua asked as he leaned over my shoulder to examine the letter. I hummed quietly to myself.
"It's an invitation to become examiners for the hunters exam. It says we need to mail in our reply immediately."
Killua quickly wipes his hands off on his small flour covered apron. Since we'd moved in together Killua had taken it upon himself to learn to cook, hence the apron. He wasn't too shabby either.
"Well, what do you want to do?" He asks pulling a chair up beside me. I set the letter down and lean back in my chair. It had been so long since I'd had anything to do with any hunters other than Killua. Would we be good examiners? Also, where is the exam taking place? Killua must've noticed my perplexed expression and grabbed my hand, slowly rubbing it.
"Hey, we don't have to go. I know you don't want to have to go back to the association either." I nodded and squeezed his hand back. I hadn't been back to the association, my old home, since we split ways with Gon five years ago. We'd lost contact with him not long after that. On the other hand, it could be nice to get out. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?
