'you haven't been good for long. Is it the sound of your thoughts, that always keeps you up at night? Maybe it's time to say goodbye. Cause I'm getting pretty fucking tired.'
I woke up the next morning with the sun bright in my eyes. I looked around and noticed boxes surrounding my room with all of my things in them.
I got dressed and went down for breakfast the smell of pancakes hit my nose and I sighed in happiness.
"Lexi, good to see you awake. Could you go feed Wish, please, then come back quickly for breakfast? We have a lot of work to do today. Just eat real fast, then go feed her," she said, setting the plate of pancakes down. I could tell she was stressed out about all the work we needed to do today.
I scarfed down the pancakes leaving a weird feeling in my throat as I walked out and grabbed some hay from the back of the barn and brought it to the still sleeping Wish and I smiled."wakey, wish."I said unlatching the door and she lifted her head but refused to stand up so I maneuvered myself around her.
I pumped some water in a bucket and put it inside her water barrel next to the food.
I scratched her head between her ears quickly but got right back up and left making sure to lock it back so she wouldn't leave not that she ever would she loves it here.
As soon as I walked back into the houses my mother shoved one of best dressed and one of my favorite best dressed into my face." get dressed quickly we are going to the church picnic." she said and I smiled running to my room getting swiftly dressed this was going to be my first impression on the town and I was so excited.
My mother grabbed her umbrella to keep the sun away from her that matched her dress and I put on my gloves and we linked arms walking to the lake which wasn't far.
As soon as we got there my anxiety crept up in me and I fiddled with the end of my glove but stopped once my mother had reassured me and pointed to a familiar family I smiled."look there is the Gillis family. Come on let go.
We walked over to them both of rubies parents getting up and greeting us I noticed Ruby was with a girl with dark brown hair that must be Diana I walked up to them and tapped Ruby on the shoulder she smiled and hugged me, diana looked at her skeptical." Diana, this is Lexi Hope, she is new to Avonlea." ruby introduced me to Diana.
"It's nice to meet you, Lexi." Diana stuck out her hand which I shook.
"It's lovely to meet you too, Diana, I've heard so much about you," I said in my accent and Diana looked at my hair and gasped.
"I love your hair," she said and I smiled.
"thank you."
"It's quite confounding. why send her away just to retrieve her?" Diana's mother asked and noticed me and I smiled at her and stuck out my hand.
"Hi, I'm Lexi hope I'm new to Avonlea and just moved in next to the Gillis family." she smiled at me and shook my hand.
"confounding, indeed, I hope those old cuthberts aren't losing their marbles." her husband agreed with her and I looked where they were looking and whispered over to Ruby and Diana." who are they talking about?"I asked them and Ruby shrugged while Diana just stood there smiling at the girl with the old people who now I knew as the Cuthberts.
"what do you mean?" Diana asked and we all sat down in extra chairs they had brought a little girl who looked like Diana's little sister was skipping around us and she hit Diana."stop it!" Diana whispered and yelled.
"you stop it!" the little girl said sarcastically and I huffed at how annoying she was really and Diana stood up out of annoyance.
"I mean, I hope that isn't becoming addled, dear, as seniors are wont to do."Diana's father said sipping on tea.
"They hardly want to, darling." Diana's mother said and the little girl went up to her mother with a biscuit.
"I don't like this biscuit," she said plainly.
"then don't eat it."I couldn't explain her mother's accent it was like French meets British meets American." well, it can't be a peaceable household. It simply can't." she stated and I realized Diana was still standing."the girl was an orphan after all." she said and my eyes widened."how does one know what one is getting?" she asked.
"one doesn't." her husband replied still with his back turned towards her.
I looked at where the Cuthberts were and noticed someone behind them he looked like he was wearing an army uniform." who is that." Diana pointed the man out and her mother and father also looked along with Ruby.
I stood up quickly and looked over to where my mother was she was already running and crying trying to get over to the man." he came home early."I whispered to myself and started running toward him also.
my mother reached my father first then let go giving him a long kiss but when I reached him he picked me up and spun me around." Dad you home."I said as he finally pulled me into a hug.
"yes I am sweetheart and it will stay like that. I have resigned from the army I almost lost my life so they were willing to let me go home to my family," he said his strong British accent coming through and I smiled hugging him again.
"I can't wait till you meet my new bosom friend Father and our new horse She is gorgeous like a horse out of the fairytales you used to read to me," I said as my father linked his arm with mine and his other with my mother.
I noticed the girl in front of us with red hair she must be the orphan she looked like she was getting picked on by this boy and she ran off I almost ran after her but I noticed one of the Cuthberts did first the woman.
We introduced my father to the Gillis family and my father and Mr. Gillis immediately became friends much like me and Ruby.
We walked around introducing ourselves to everyone there.
we all walked back home but before we went inside I led my father over to Wish in her stable." Father, this is Wish, my horse, mum said she was mine, and now that you're here you can teach me how to ride the right way this time no side saddle mum said I didn't have to."I said and he smiled.
"she is beautiful you were right, something out of a fairytale."
we both walked into the house and got ready for dinner seeing as it was getting late but first I showed Dad around the house and told him about what I was excited about this year.
After dinner, I was dismissed to go to my room and get ready for bed which I did quickly cause I was informed that I would be going to school tomorrow since my mother had my father to help her with cleaning up the house.
I said my prayers after getting into my nightgown and both mother and father said goodnight to me and much like last night I drifted off into a deep sleep.
