THE VK'S sat in the kitchen of auradon prep, reading off the recipe for love-spelled cookies. after learning that only ben's family and his girlfriend got to be up with him while he was crowned king, by the wand, mal decided that she would entrance him by baking spelled cookies, ultimately making him fall in love, giving mal direct access to fairy godmother's wand.

"all right. it says that we still need one tear, and i never cry." mal reads off, adding a comment of her own (that was most definitely not true).

"let's just chop up some onions." carlos suggested, grabbing an onion.

"no!" mal exclaims in exasperation. "it says that we need one tear of human sadness. and this love potion gets the best reviews, so, we have to follow it exactly." she states with a nod.

     "a tear's a tear..."

"that's not true, jay. they both have antibodies and enzymes, but, an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex tear." evie remarks, leaving the rest of the vk's speechless.

"listen to youuuu." mal teases with a smile.

"yeah, i knew that." jay lies with a nonchalant laugh.

"did not." carlos replies, hitting his arm playfully.

"yeah, i did-" jay restates, pausing from the sound of the kitchen door opening. eloise pops into the door, adorned with pajamas and slippers.

"there you are, mal! i was looking for you! you know, all the girls want you to do their hair!" mal laughs nervously, covering her spell book and continuing to stir the cookie dough. "midnight snack, huh? whatcha guys making?" eloise asks, looking at the bowl.

"nothing special. just cookies...." mal trails off, watching the blonde swipe her finger in it and taste the batter.

"oh, no, no, no! wait, wait, wait!" the vk's all shout, their voices overlapping. eloise looks concerned and confused.

"what? i'm not gonna double dip." she reassures.

"feel... anything?" evie questions, nervousness lacing her tone and expression.

"yeah, like maybe it might be missing something?" mal adds on. eloise just looks at them funny, before jay tries to take his shot, slowly walking towards eloise, then leaning on one of the metal pillars in front of her, smirking.

"hey there." he says in a flirty tone. eloise just smiles at him awkwardly, looking even more confused.

"it could use some chips!" she exclaims, ignoring jay's antics. jay frowns. mal and evie exhale in relief at the spell obviously not working.

     "and those are?" mal asks.

"chocolate chips. just... the most important food group, especially for cookies." eloise says with excitement, grabbing a small bowl of chocolate chips from the fridge, bringing them over. the rest of the teens all look confused as she grabs some and sprinkles them in the dough. "didn't your moms ever make you guys chocolate chip cookies?" eloise asks obliviously, popping a chip into her mouth. the vk's all look at her, their faces a mix of sadness and confusion. "like, when you're feeling sad! and they're fresh from the oven with a big glass of milk and she just cheers you up no matter how you're feeling and..." the blonde trails off, seeing the sadness on all of their faces.  "...why are you all looking at me like that?" she questions in concern.

"it's just... different where we're from."

"...i know, i just, you know, i thought... even villains love their kids?" she justifies, her voice faltering at their somber expressions. she mutters a quiet 'oh', immediately feeling immense guilt. "how- how awful. i'm so sorry." eloise apologizes, a tear rolling down her cheek, grabbing mal's hand in an attempt at comforting her. mal's eyes snap up to her face, seeing the tear, and wiping it off her cheek, discreetly dropping it into the dough.

"yeah, well, big bummer, but we have to get these into the oven, so, thank you so much for coming by, have a really, really good night." mal suddenly says, pushing eloise gently towards the door.

     "okay, okay."

"i'll see you tomorrow, evil dreams!"

     "goodnight!"

"goodnight, see you tomorrow!" mal replies, watching her leave the kitchen with a thankful sigh. "thank you, eloise." mal remarks once the unknowing blonde is out of hearing-range, turning back to the vk's. "alright, boys, cookie sheet. evie, oven."

"yes ma'am." evie responds, all of them going to prepare the cookies. if only eloise had known what that tear would do for auradon.
