Chapter 12
*Lacey*
It’s Friday, Friday! Gotta get down on Friday!
Melanie played through some of the tracks that she was going to play at her party tomorrow night. I wrinkled up my nose and Natalie laughed.
You aren’t seriously thinking of playing that are you?” Nat wondered.
Melanie shrugged. “I guess so; it is on a Friday is it not?”
I laughed and Nat joined in.
“That’s completely beside the point.” I told her still trying not to giggle. “No one likes that song.”
Melanie pretended to look offended. “That’s not true! That would have to be my favourite song!”
Natalie and I started to laugh and Melanie cracked and joined in too.
“Does it really matter what I play? Everyone’s there for the dancing and the beer.” Melanie pointed out.
Nat shrugged and looked at me. “That’s a very good point.”
I sighed. “Play the song if you really want.”
She nodded, ticked the track and moved on to the next one.
When we’d finished going through her whole playlist we’d ended up with a grand total of one hundred and thirty eight songs to play. Of course, once again we had way too many but we always decided that it was better to have too many than not enough.
I remember one time we’d done all of the Math and worked out how many tracks we’d need and everything and then when it came to party time and our lousy seventy songs finished the party was still jumping and boy was everyone pissed. We’ve always done at least an extra fifty after that.
“So I’ll see you tomorrow at school?” Melanie asked Nat and I as we walked out into her driveway and over to Liam’s car.
I nodded. “Definitely, I’ll see you then.”
Nat nodded in agreement and gave Melanie a hug goodbye. “See ya’ Melly.”
“Bye babes.” Mel called as we hopped into the car.
We waved goodbye and let Liam drive us away.
“Did you work everything out?” Liam wondered looking into the mirror to see our faces.
I nodded faking enthusiasm. “Yep, we’re ready for the party.”
“I’ve noticed I haven’t received my invite yet.” Liam smiled and raised his eyebrows.
I laughed. “Well for a start, what would you do at a high school party? And second of all you lost your invite when you became a teacher at my school.” I grinned.
“Now I understand why you wanted me there so bad.” He chuckled.
He looked at Nat and she smiled happy to have some attention. Then he looked back at the road just as a corner came up in front of us.
“You’d let me come wouldn’t you Natty?” He wondered.
I rolled my eyes and pretended to gag.
Nat giggled. “Of course, but it really would ruin your job as a teacher.”
“What if I were there as a chaperone?” He challenged.
I chuckled. “Please, the only thing he’d be chaperoning is the big keg of beer.”
Liam grinned and winked at me. “You know me all too well.”
