Chapter 11

*Elijah*

“So, what are you doing this weekend Eli?” Alexis wondered.

Even though I smiled at her, I didn’t mean it. “Nothing yet.”

“Well then, allow me to change that. You’re coming to a party at my friend’s house.” She announced as she twirled a strand of hair around her finger.

I shrugged. “That sounds like a plan.”

I turned away from her and looked towards the front of the classroom. I felt extremely guilty for no reason at all. It was time to move on and this is the first step at doing that.

I looked at her, she winked, and I gave her a smile back. She was a nice girl and there was no denying that she was pretty with her sparkly eyes and shining blonde hair. Just not beautiful like Lacey.

When class was over I shot up and walked out of the room but Alex hurried after me. When she caught up to me she gently touched my back and, slowly I turned around to smile at her.

“Hey.” I said softly.

She looked like she was about to giggle. “Um, I was wondering who you were going to spend recess with.”

I shrugged. “Hadn’t really thought about it yet. Maybe Matt.”

She grinned. “Well you’re welcome to sit with my friends and me, if you want to that is.”

“That would be great, thanks Alexis.” I told her making my way towards my locker.

I shoved my books into my locker without much thought and pulled out a bottle of water to sip on. When I slammed my locker door shut, I jumped. Melanie was standing there with an arched eyebrow and a smirk on her lips. I tried to smile but she didn’t look very welcoming.

“Tell me what happened between Lacey and you.” She demanded.

I rolled my eyes. “Well, she’s your friend. Why don’t you ask her?”

She chuckled. “Do you think I’d be here if I hadn’t already? I asked her and she wouldn’t tell me. I figured you would.”

“Well you’re out of luck because I don’t want to talk about it.” I told her trying to walk around her.

“Please Elijah, I’m begging you. I have to know why she’s so upset. I’m worried about her, she’s acting so strange and I just want to help her. Please tell me, please.” She was begging now.

“I can’t tell you Melanie, I’m sorry but I just can’t.” I sighed.

This time when I tried to step past her, she let me go.

“If you really cared about her you’d tell me.” She called out.

I stopped for a moment and turned around. “That doesn’t even matter anymore Melanie.”

I kept walking and Alexis caught up to me. “Do you want to talk about it?”

I shook my head. “Nope.”

She nodded and we headed outside. I wasn’t really looking where I was going. Just walking along behind Alexis. So when she stopped I almost rammed into the back of her. She giggled and I felt myself go almost red. I looked up to see where we were and had to keep myself from gasping. We were in front of a park bench filled with both boys and girls but I didn’t notice. Sitting across from where Alex and I stood was Lace and Natalie talking to each other quietly. Suddenly Melanie came over to them and sat down but not before, she looked up at me to glare.
