M I N J I
—"You're staring again," I sing-song, chuckling lightly as I peer up at Hanni through my lashes while I slurp my last string of pasta.
She grins and leans forward on her elbows, licking her lips.
"Can't help it. I've lost about four years of those beautiful brown eyes of yours, and I'm using all the time in the world to make up for it," she smoothly replies, shrugging her shoulders as if I should've known that already.
I roll my eyes and stick my tongue out at her, wanting to distract myself from the blush appearing on my cheeks.
"Aren't you a charmer?" I point out, tilting my head to the side as a sigh of love escapes my mouth, and I'm floating on cloud nine once again.
Oh my gosh. The things you do to me, Hanni Pham.
Hanni smiles and shrugs her shoulders yet again.
"What can I say? You do things to me."
Did she just read my mind? Or do we just feel the same way about each other?
"Aw, that's sweet," I sarcastically tease her, flicking my milkshake straw in her direction as it successfully lands on the tip of her nose.
I fist bump my accomplishment and cover my mouth to stop the giggles from flowing out.
She narrows her eyes on me and grabs her iced tea, licking her straw slowly before taking a big sip.
My eyes go wide when she places her tongue on the tip and brings the plastic straw up, facing the other end towards me as I shake my head at her.
"Don't you dare," I gasp, chewing on my inner cheek as I squint my eyes at the inevitable attack.
It doesn't come, and I open my eyes to see what she's planning to do when all of a sudden, she blows the straw and the contents of her iced tea come flying right at me, hitting me all over my top; and I would be totally disgusted by this if I wasn't so amused by Hanni.
She throws her head back and cups her stomach in laughter as I pout and grab pieces of tissue, immediately wiping all the liquid off of me before it stains further.
She's lucky I'm wearing a brown tee or I'd flip.
"That's gross," I tell her, giggling lightly as well as cursing at myself for giving in so easily.
Hanni smirks and rolls her eyes.
"Like you didn't do it too," she shoots back playfully, placing her straw back inside her glass as she continues to eat her meal.
I shake my head and lick my lips, weirdly grinning and showing off my gummy smile.
I'm not crazy, okay? There's just something about me when it involves Hanni.
"Hanni, mine was the whipped cream on top. You, on the other hand, practically spat your saliva all over me," I reply pointedly, ignoring her suddenly smug attitude as she winks.
"Please, you probably love having all of my—"
I shake my head, holding a hand up to stop her.
"Don't even finish that sentence," I laugh, chewing on my lower lip.
"Don't want you to embarrass yourself, after all," I joke, earning a kick on my shin under the table.
My jaw drops, and I raise a challenging eyebrow at her. Is she seriously going to keep doing this to me?
She grins and shrugs her shoulders, diving in to get another scoop of her fish when I kick her back, slightly harder than her own.
