Axelle and Rhiane became close friends again. Axelle didn’t expect they would reconnect after many years without seeing each other.

One time, it was Axelle's birthday. Rhiane couldn’t greet her because she was an Anzar. Anzars couldn’t celebrate their own birthdays due to their traditions.

Axelle's POV

Rhiane texted Axelle that Elwin messaged her, asking Rhiane to let Axelle know since Axelle didn’t respond to anyone except her.

Rhiane’s message: “Hey Axelle, Elwin greets you. He said happy birthday and hopes you two could hang out together if it’s okay with you.”

Axelle didn’t know Rhiane messaged her since her phone was with her mother. Her mother saw it and asked her.

"Who is Elwin?"

Axelle felt frightened. "Uhmm, my admirer before; he was Rhiane's classmate."

"Did Elwin court you?"

Axelle felt furious. "Ugh… Here we go again."

"I'm just asking. I’ve seen in Rhiane’s message that this guy wanted to hang out with you."

Axelle was outraged. "Of course he didn’t, and I don’t know what he wants. I just ignored him."

"Mhmmm, I don’t think so."

"Ugh, whatever."

Axelle took her phone and messaged Rhiane while feeling aggravated.

Axelle’s message: "Hey, why did you just message me about Elwin? I keep telling you not to mention any guy again. I hate all of them."

Rhiane replied, "Sorry, I didn’t know, okay? Haha. It’s just that Elwin asked me to message you because he said you kept ignoring his messages to you."

Axelle messaged, "Of course, I just want to distance myself from them. You know how much my mother overreacts when it comes to guys. If someone just messages me, she’ll keep asking me about it over and over until I’m so done. That’s why I don’t want you to mention any of them. It’s irritating. Even Clifford wanted us to switch accounts, and I was like, for what? But he didn’t tell me until he gave it to me. I saw that he and my classmate had something and were courting me? Like, what the heck is that? I didn’t give my account to him."

Rhiane just guffawed at her.

Axelle messaged again: "Rhiane, I’m serious about it."

Rhiane replied, "Okay, I’m sorry. I won’t do it again."

While Axelle was in her room, someone messaged her.

Elwin messaged: "It’s been a long time since you’ve talked to me. I hope you will talk to me right now."

Axelle just stared at his message and kept it as delivered.

As Axelle distracted herself by watching and doing something, she remembered Frey and talked to her mind.

"Frey? Why do I keep thinking of him? I hate him after what he did. You swore you loved me, but I can’t even feel it. I just knew you were just obsessed."

Her mind says, "Just find another guy."

"No, I’m not. Finding what? It’s just the same cycle over and over. It’s only happier at the beginning, but in the end, you fall out of love and feel sorrow. I hate all of them. I’m not going to love ever again."

Axelle's heart burned with a profound resentment towards Frey. She longed to escape the shadow Frey cast over her life and reclaim the joy she once knew, a joy now obscured by the changes wrought by Frey's presence. The transformation wasn't limited to her own sense of self; it had even altered her mother's view of her. Once more lenient, her mother had grown increasingly rigid, imposing harsher standards regarding her relationships.
