Cora Winchester knew storms, like she knew that the sun rose in the East and set in the West, like she knew how to add and subtract. She felt how the wind picked up, bringing a chill straight from Hell. The way the clouds darkened and the breaths of gods whipped through fields of wheat and corn. Cora knew storms, alright. Better than she knew people. Storms were chaotic, destructive, but you knew what you were getting into when you shouted fuck it and chased them across raging Oklahoma landscapes. You knew you were in for a world of hurt if that storm caught up to you. People were unassuming, with sweet smiles and honeyed words, yet left worse damage than a tornado ever could. Tornados could take your house, your farm, and your livelihood, but they'd never break you. People are great at breaking each other. Cora felt it first hand, a college hookup turned spirit when he left the next morning to ace his finals. Cora was left in the dust in her own story as Tyler Owen's rode out, and she was left to pick up what was left. There wasn't much left unscathed, and in the morning, with a face full of tears and runny mascara, Core Winchester swore off human calamity. Storms only. At least you knew they'd hurt you.

Cora Winchester had been chasing storms her entire life. One town after another, temp jobs in the backs of diners, and leaving when the season moved on. Cora's life was a twister in itself, always moving, throwing debris, and digging up her roots. Nowhere was home, and nowhere could withstand the force that was Cora. Everywhere she went, she brought hell and left with it on her back. And that was the way she liked it. The wind in her hair with open windows, wide fields of green expanding for miles, and an alert saying storm weather. Cora could die tomorrow, and she'd only regret one thing. A step she didn't take, a word she didn't say. And it would haunt her during every chase. Tyler was in every tornado she saw, his smiling face and the time they spent together. And Cora drove into it.

It was so much easier seeing Tyler Owens in storms. Seeing his face for the first time in five years was enough to make Cora Winchester falter. His smiling face, and chants of chasing the devil. After years of running from the stay that was too hard to say, Cora and Tyler gather to chase storms. On rival ends of the chase, the world seems so much smaller. And it isn't hard for just Cora, as she thought it would be. Because she wasn't the only one wishing she'd asked him to stay in her cheap apartment with a busted AC unit. It turns out, the great Tyler Owens had a regret or two he wanted to settle before his adrenaline led him to his death. And he'd been chasing more than just storms all these years.
