After School
As the school day ended, I found myself heading to the courtyard, hoping to find some peace and quiet. I settled under a tree, the shade providing a perfect spot to escape the lingering tension of the assembly.
I pulled out my phone and began scrolling through social media, trying to distract myself. Ann's posts were blowing up with comments about the assembly, and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride for my best friend. She'd been through so much, and now Kamoshida was finally facing the consequences.
"sup neko" Ryuji's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see him approaching with Akira and Morgana in tow.
"wassup," I mumbled, too tired to muster much more. Morgana hopped onto my lap, purring contentedly as I absentmindedly scratched behind his ears.
"You doing fine?" Akira asked, sitting down beside me. His dark eyes were filled with concern, and I felt a warmth spread through me at his genuine care.
"Yeah, just... processing," I replied, leaning back against the tree. "It's been a lot."
"Tell me about it," Ryuji said, flopping down on the grass. "That was some heavy shit. BUTTT atleast it's done for now."
"Yeah, I guess," I said, trying to shake off the lingering unease. "But it's still weird, you know? Like, hearing all that... he just confessed.. so unexpectedly."
"I know watchu mean," Akira said softly.
I offered him a small smile, grateful for his presence. As we sat there, the afternoon sun filtering through the leaves, I felt a sense of calm settle over me. It wasn't much, but it was enough. I could feel my face redden a bit seeing Akira so close to my face, he also sat next to me but leaned so much in it was my height. His eyes are closed as I looked at him and smiled softly.
"Your eyelashes are really long.." I said while looking at him
He looked at me, making our face closer. As the realization hit us we were really red
Later That Evening
Back at home, I found myself curled up on the couch, trying to lose myself in another episode of Kimi ni Todoke. The door opened, and Ryuji walked in, looking exhausted but relieved.
"im home," he said dropping down beside me. "Whatcha watching?"
"New season!," I squealed, not taking my eyes off the screen. "IM so excited"
"jeez.. you seriously got a shoujo obsession.."
"maybe that's why my standards are so high..," I said softly. "whatever though"
"you'll never find someone," he laughed, ruffling my hair.
I pushed him aside angrily "shut up"
