"Shut up, bitch, the world ain't about you."

     "It's not about you either!"

Ben stood further from Darius and Sammy's spectating spot. Kenji and Brooklynn were at it again— yacking off at each other over something dumb.

"Kenji, I swear," Brooklynn growled. "Give me back my fucking phone!"

"Maybe when you stop screaming like a child—"

"A child?" Brooklynn ridiculed. "A child? Kenji, I didn't steal your damn stuff and tease you with it!"

Kenji's hand— wielding the girl's phone— didn't move from its place above his head. "Maybe if you'd stop being such an intolerable cunt you'd still have it."

Brooklynn gasped, offended. "You're such a dick!"

     Kenji was unbothered. "Okay?"

Darius tried to cut in, "Guys, guys! Please don't fight. Dave and Roxie will be back soon and—"

"It's good, Darius," Kenji said coolly. "The precious object will be returned when the babysitters pull in."

"I fucking hate you!" Brooklynn pushed Kenji's chest, but the elder hardly budged.

     "Go ahead. I don't care."

Unfortunately for the arguing duo, Dave and Roxie's truck swerved back into the lot. Not that they heard anything over their jaw-flapping.

Sammy then helped, "Uh, you two—"

     "Damn, you're loud."

"I'm shouting, you stupid fuck! Give me my phone!"

     "Dave and Roxie!"

Brooklynn and Kenji halted. The phone was handed back, and they went their separate ways.

The elevator binged, and the counselors appeared with arms full of groceries.

"Sorry we took so long!" Roxie called, approaching the kitchen.

"Crowded today," added Dave, who wasn't far behind. "We got some food for supper tonight!"

"Did y'all remember to get ranch?" Sammy asked.

     "Yup," Dave replied.

As Sammy smiled approvingly, Ben made his way to the kitchen. He made sure Kenji wasn't watching, then tapped Roxie on the shoulder.

"Ben?" She turned around, scooting bananas close to the corner of the counter. "What is it, hon?"

He hesitated. Should he even tell her? What would Kenji do? He could see Brooklynn's triumphant face as Kenji was told off.

     "Uh, Kenji, Brooklynn... fighting before."

Dave too was now facing Ben. "Over what?"

"Mm... phone." He tried to pronounce it was well as Brooklynn did.

Roxie looked impatient, Dave unsure. The latter wondered, "Was it bad?"

Ben shrugged, "No uh... no..." He made a fist and gestured.

"That's good," Roxie said. "Just words?"

     Ben nodded.

"We'll talk to them," Dave sighed.

Ben backed off to his bunk, avoiding contact with his campmates. Looking at Kenji, he could see he'd be mad. He'd know somehow Ben slipped something to the counselors, and it'd be his ass. But Ben was sick of Kenji's superiority complex; he knew everyone was.

When it was time to grill the steaks, everyone but Ben and Kenji had abandoned the couch or bunks to gather on the balcony. It was cooler inside, and noises were muffled behind walls. Ben preferred it that way. The only problem was Kenji's lurking.

Ben kept his eyes on Kenji as he rose from his bed, tucking his sketchbook under his covers. Kenji wasn't reacting, so Ben decided to sneak past him and head outside where Kenji couldn't yell or anything.

But Ben was too slow. Kenji leapt over the couch, grabbed Ben by the shirt collar, and slammed him into the wall. Ben winced, trying to push away but too afraid to move.

"It was you who told Dave and Roxie, wasn't it?" Kenji snarled.

Ben only bit his lip, pinning himself against the wall. Only if he could sink into it and be farther from him...

     "Look at me, pussy."

     Ben didn't.

     "Look at me."

Kenji roughly grabbed Ben by the chin, forcing the younger to look at him. Ben gnawed on his trembling lip.

Kenji seemed to retract internally, something of hesitation coming over him. Ben flinched, staring down at his hands, cracking his fingers.

"Fuck you," Kenji hissed, throwing Ben to the side by his chin. He elbowed the smaller boy in the side, then left for the balcony.

Ben let his tears fall. He rubbed the wet from his cheeks, off to the bathroom to wash his face with his tail between his legs.

He hated Kenji. He fucking hated that bully.
