Eyes darting from the map to the ocean, Darius said, "If you squint... that way—" he pointed— "that's Isla Muerta. Site C."

Ominous dark clouds loomed over the island, threatening to shroud Sorna.

"You know what's over there?" Kenji asked, glancing at the map.

Darius' eyes narrowed, "Dinosaurs. Don't know what species; the United Nations kept it private. I've read ideas though."

"You think we can find help there?"

Pursing his lips, Darius said, "Nope. If we can't find help here, we'll never find it on Muerta. It was supposed to be another Jurassic Park location, but it was abandoned like Sorna after a Costa Rican Guard vessel monitoring the island was attacked. Nobody survived."

Kenji rubbed his nose bridge with his middle fingers, huffing.

"We can't even get over there, we don't have a stable transportation vehicle," Darius added. "And I'm sure you don't wanna risk dying."

"Not after all this shit," Kenji grumbled.

"I read it's super foggy there too. We wouldn't be able to see anything."

"So, definite no," Kenji sighed. He looked at the map and poked it, "What about that one?"

"Isla Tacaño?" Darius muttered. "I don't know much about that one, but I'm aware of a huge volcano that erupts often."

Kenji stared at the ground. This wasn't fucking fair. Why'd he and the others push with all their might through survival on Nublar to end up on another dinosaur-infested island? Better yet, other InGen/GenNeg-owned sites were almost surely off the list.

"I mean... we could try Tacaño. It may not be home to dinosaurs." Darius lifted a finger, "But we need to find a boat first. I'm thinking the Southern Docks."

"What if there are dinosaurs there?" Kenji snapped. He turned on his heel, facing the younger boy. "Face it, Darius. This is hopeless!"

The cherry on top was that Sorna had been long-vacated. There was no fresher food, no working electricity in the buildings. Any potential shelter was falling apart, and anything functioning was easily damaged.

Darius looked betrayed. His arms fell to his sides. "I'm sorry Kenj."

     "Stop. Stop apologizing."

Darius sniffed, "It's all I can do."

Kenji flinched as much as Darius had. He exhaled shakily, hugging Darius and burying his face in his matted hair.

"I'm sorry Darius. I just— I'm stressed, and I get mad and—"

"You don't get to apologize now," Darius' voice broke. He wrapped his arms around Kenji, rocking back and forth slowly. His tears tickled Kenji's chest.

"Yeah I do. You're doing a lot for us and I'm being an ass." He scratched Darius' hair, struggling in the knots. "I should be more grateful."

Darius hiccuped, "I love you, Kenj."

     "I love you too, brother."

They pulled away from each other. Darius ran his nose on his arm, wiped tears with his shirt. Kenji kicked the sand beneath their feet.

"We might as well head back," Darius suggested. He blinked a few times, getting over the end of his crying. He held the map more confidently, "We'll introduce the plan to the others."
