Syd povWhen Eloise suggested we share our wedding day with her and Vinni I was a little uncertain.
Despite the terrible experience with Harry, I have been married before, so I was happy to share our special day with Vinni and Eloise, but felt that Yanni deserved to have the spotlight since he's never been married before.
We discussed it for a week or two and Yanni was insistent that he would love to share his wedding day with his twin since they'd done almost everything in life together since birth, and actually hates the limelight but he didn't want me to agree for his sake."At the end of the day" he said, "as long as at the end of the ceremony you are my wife I'll get married at a rubbish dump, if that's what you want!"
The celebrant Martha has started speaking, welcoming all the guests and beginning the service, turning to Vinni and Eloise first.
They exchange traditional vows and rings then it is our turn. After a short speech about love, partnership and overcoming adversity Martha turns to me and says it's time for the exchanging of vows.
I turn to face the man with whom I intend to spend forever, loving him harder than he could ever comprehend, a frown finding its way onto my face which he notices and mirrors."Yanni, my first impression of you wasn't a positive one, as you know, but I very quickly realised that you were going to be special to me." I begin, now smiling at the look of relief on his face before continuing.
"You have shown me what a real man is, someone supportive, comforting and gentle. You have reminded me that I have value, encouraged me when times have been tough, supported me in all my endeavours and loved me while I've tried to find myself.
You have been a listening ear, comforting hugs and kind words, have helped me learn to love myself for who I am and I want to be all those things for you too. I have learned how powerful the written word can be, and some of the lessons have been hard, but my life changed for the better the moment I met you. The real you, in the bedroom on the plane to Seoul. I should have seen sooner the differences between you and Vinni but he really did a great job of making a terrible first impression." I chide with a smirk in Vinni's direction and he raises his hands in mock celebration of his achievement before turning back to me and mouthing the word sorry, bringing a lump to my throat as I contemplate how far our relationship has come.... we're even sharing our weddings!
I turn back to my husband to be who is gazing at me with such adoration that my already overwhelmed emotional system completely collapses and tears spring from my eyes.... thank goodness for waterproof mascara!"Look, Yanni...." I pause to gulp down another sob and take a breath then take both his hands in my own and fix my eyes on his.
"I love you. I want to be your wife. I want to care for you when you're sick, support you when you're struggling, lift you up when you're down and celebrate with you when you're winning. I want you. Do you want that too?" I end with a wink.
Martha chuckles and steps back gesturing we should continue without her which causes a rumble of laughter in the room."Fuck yes! I do!" He enthuses loudly and I can't contain my laughter, his joy clear on his beautiful face as I slip the platinum band on his left ring finger.
"Syd. You have turned my world upside down, my heart inside out and back again, but you have made me realise that I have never loved anyone before you. You inspire me every day, challenge me and love me and I can't imagine my life without you in it. My only future is with you. You are my everything Sydney, I want to be yours forever, do you want to be forever mine too?" He asks with a sincerity that makes my heart swell and more tears to prick in my eyes.
"I do!" I choke out, throwing myself into his arms and hugging him tightly.
Martha clears her throat and I pull back with a start and look at her as I worry that I've broken some kind of rule of wedding etiquette, but the soft smile she is wearing tells me I needn't worry as Yanni puts my wedding ring on me.
"We have heard both couples exchange....... very different vows" she pauses and smiles and there is another ripple of laughter in the room..... "The words may have been very different, but the sentiment was very much the same. Love, simply put, is wanting the best for that special someone, but wanting not only to share in that great life, but to be involved in creating it for them. To share all life's highs and lows with that person, being both supported and supportive. These two gorgeous couples have shown their commitment to, and love for one another and it gives me great pleasure to pronounce you husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Smith, and Mr and Mrs Smith!" she chuckles.
"Gentlemen, you may kiss your brides." She claps and our guests join her as they do just that!
The reception is amazing. The food is incredible, the atmosphere full of joy, music and laughter fills the grand room. My cheeks hurt because I can't get the smile to fall from my face......I have never felt happier, or more complete in my whole life.
I've just returned from a very interesting and difficult trip to the toilet where I learned a few new yoga poses..... and that I should ask for help a little more often!
I stop at the bar to get a drink after all the exercise I just got emptying the remains of the last six coffee liquor shots from my bladder, resting my elbows on the bar as my legs are starting to tire, and maybe those shots have had a little part to play in that too!?
A man clears his throat beside me and I look at him with a smile, expecting someone to congratulate me.The lust in his eyes is intense, so much so that I can almost taste the pheromones and testosterone in the air surrounding us. My throat dries, and my heart pounds..... this is not going to be a congratulatory conversation.
My drink arrives and I knock back the shot then look him directly in the eyes, placing the glass on the bar between us, holding his gaze.
Enbibed with the confidence of the hit of alcohol I lean forward and ask him if I can help him."Remember me? Mr Min!" He growls, his voice full of desire.
I'm surprised by his words but smile back at him.
"Of course Mr Min! Hello again." I reply, looking around the room to see if we are being observed.
"Nice dress! I guess that I helped you make that decision you were wrestling with the last time we met?" He chuckles whilst eyeing me up and down.
"You're right, and Thankyou. You helped me understand that I am in love AND in lust with my man. Infact, as you can see from my attire, I actually married him today......... Hopefully he feels as lucky about that as I do." I smile, kissing him on the cheek.
"I'm a very lucky man indeed" he grins, taking me by the hand and leading me out of the ballroom and off to our new life together!
