With the bloom of the 2020's came the soaring importance of mental health as people were forced to stay in their homes and live in social isolation. Along with it came the increasing importance for proper diagnosis of mental problems, health issues and counseling
Negatives and Positives are supposed to stay together in this world. As tiktok and other socaial media plaform became a sensation worldwide during pandemic, mental health topics and self-diagnosing also became a trend on the app. While mental health awareness is more than a trend, and should be treated as such, it cannot be denied that such things do occur especially due to excessive use of social media.
A question might arise here, that why are we asking this question? This is to simply highlight the importance of counselling and proper diagnosing of course! As one of our fellow community members have said: "It's important when you don't know where to start in your healing journey. When you're stuck in a cycle of depression that you can't shake or when you don't believe in your self. It helps when you are at the bottom of your life and nothing looks positive. Being taught and told something opposite of what I've always believed that was my sadness was a blanket of comfort. Finding out how scary it is to fight and change my way of thinking. I knew it wasn't healthy but I still laid in it. Someone looking in from the outside really helps you as long as they could connect with you. I've had some tell me my issues were ok. They nurtured me like some bubble of greatness and I've had some people questioned me as if what I'm doing is a path of destruction. [Being] Given a name to my misery and the things I didn't know even existed. Having an understanding of what my diagnosis is and being able to look it up with understanding instead of being in a pool of misunderstandings. It's important just as long as you stride forward."
Counselling is very important, regardless of whether or not you display the signs and symptoms of a specific disorder or illness. It doesn't matter, as counselling is for everyone! And with this article, we hope to encourage you all to try counselling and therapy, even if you just need someone to talk to. Therapy and counselling is also about listening and helping you understand and process your feelings and emotions.
Another member gracefully pens down: "But personally what I love about couselling is that it helps you get a professional outlook on your problems. Because in my experience, with mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, etc your brain tells you that you’re a terrible person and then you spiral from there and it keeps getting worse sometimes, just hearing a professional say 'hey your brain is just being mean you’re not like that' really helps. (In my experience it has helped a ton with my ocd). And another thing about going for a therapy is that sometimes people are born with certain disorders (autism, adhd, dyslexia, etc) and these people definitely need professional help and counselling. Normal people can't just diagnose them or give them the appropriate treatment (same with aquired disorders like ptsd, ocd, aspd). These are pretty hard to manage if you don’t seek out help and can make your quality of life much worse."
There you have it folks! We hope to see more people take their mental health seriously. And if you want to learn more about the importance of counselling, head on over to the next articles!
